Exclusive: Intel plans to disclose to staff the “scope and nature” of its involvement with Elon Musk’s ambitious “Terafab” chip manufacturing project in the “coming weeks,” according to a memo its CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, sent last week. www.crn.com/news/compone...
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said that the company’s hiring of Zoom COO Aparna Bawa to serve as its chief legal and people officer is “central” to its transformation, according to a Thursday memo he sent to employees that was seen by CRN. www.crn.com/news/compone...
That sure is a cool job you got there.
I wrote a cover story for CRN last month detailing the myriad of ways that the memory shortage is threatening the profitability of IT resellers, which includes some of Nvidia's top partners from the past few years.
The AI boom is not lifting all boats in the IT world. www.crn.com/news/cover-s...
It's driving these partners, which include one of the largest solution providers in the U.S., to seek server opportunities with other OEMs, including Dell Technologies, HPE and Lenovo. www.crn.com/news/network...
My publication, CRN, has been closely covering the fallout of the memory shortage on IT resellers, who drive a huge volume of sales for OEMs.
Most recently, Cisco channel partners say they are losing as much as 8 percent on margin for Cisco server sales due to the OEM ending deal registration.
In other words, we should expect to see a larger impact on supply and pricing for hardware—and not just for IT resellers but also, critically, end customers—in the second quarter from component shortages. www.crn.com/news/channel...
"Q2 is a different story."
"I believe that the [average sale price] increase impact will increase because when you look at the backlog, we are starting to see some significant price increases."
The CEO of one of the world's largest distributors on how it shielded IT resellers from rising component costs:
"We had anticipated memory price or the component price increases, and we built a good inventory... We basically helped our resellers navigate brutal price increases."
But it won't last.

An AMD executive told me that he expects his company to "gain even more market share" due to Intel's self-admitted misstep in removing multithreading from the upcoming Xeon "Diamond Rapids" CPUs.
"We’re going to take advantage of it," another said.

Intel executive David Feng confirmed to CRN this week that the company has raised CPU prices for OEMs in part because of the chipmaker’s ongoing supply constraints. www.crn.com/news/compone...
Intel’s push to sell its new Core Ultra Series 3 “Panther Lake” chips for commercial PCs will help it regain share in the broader market segment, a company executive told CRN.
"We believe we’re well positioned."

At Q&A during Nvidia's GTC event, Jensen Huang was asked if he has any red lines on what he thinks AI shouldn't be used for. He didn't identify any red lines, saying at one point, "I've got my own opinions, but in the final analysis, we need AI to do a lot of great things for us."

Hello. Did anyone else besides me see that with Pure Storage's rebranding as Everpure, it chose the same name as a maker of something for deodorizing protein shakers and sports bottles, another making skin care products, and several other companies?
