President Biden Permanently Protects Vulnerable Areas of the Ocean from Oil and Gas Drilling The president used a federal law to ban future oil and gas drilling in parts of the Atlantic, Pacific, Alaska, and the Gulf of Mexico.

In his final weeks in office, President Biden protected 625 million acres of vulnerable areas of the ocean from oil and gas drilling — in a way that incoming president-elect Donald Trump can't easily undo.

In the announcement, the Biden administration acknowledged that one of the motivations for this action was lessons learned from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill - something we discuss extensively in @ateverydepth.bsky.social.
