I’m terrible on here, couldn’t believe I wasn’t following you!
Of course
As a huge proponent of identity-first language who is allergic to people-first HR speak, I have the same kneejerk reaction to people not identifying as disabled, but it’s really not my business what language others use to self-identify.
Also, good to remember that not everybody comes to disability identity or community the same way, and that there are huge variations by disability as well as by demographic factors and generation.
The disability community is a fractious, messy, big tent, and it would be good to be careful about how we talk about the people in it, and deliberate about what accountability can look like when the people in it cause harm in intentional or unintentional ways; there is no need for epic dunks or owns
Cursed discourse happening on Twitter where some maintain that Tourette’s is a fake disability and involuntary tics are a sneaky vocalization of core beliefs, while others feel John Davidson is an insufficient disability advocate for opting to describe echolalia as a condition, not a disability

HAMNET left @amuredda.bsky.social and me dry-eyed, so we dug into why it didn’t work, how it adapts Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, and why some passing knowledge of Shakespeare might hinder rather than help your appreciation of the film:

She meant a lot to me and to everyone who had the opportunity to work with her or even just talk with her.
When I complained, idly I thought, about Criterion forgoing disability perspectives on their Tod Browning set, she immediately reached out and offered me a platform to write about FREAKS for the Disability Visibility Project. She took people seriously and fought for them.
I’m so saddened by the loss of Alice Wong, truly one of the good ones, to whom community-building came naturally. A great writer, activist, and person. bsky.app/profile/sesm...
