“reed”
it’s the receipt you get when someone reads your message (not “reds”)

Anyone else getting a sudden flood of spam make it to their Gmail inbox? It’s always from a different gmail.com address, with the same template. I assumed it would start to get filtered, but it’s been a while now…

“Next Level” in Portland—a pinball museum and arcade—is an absolute national treasure. Today I finally played Golden Axe again after way too many years.

Imagine being a financial institution and lending money against NFTs and then having to repossess them. Imagine explaining that to the Board. “Okay no we didn’t get the money back. But we did get this stupid ape cartoon which we may be able to sell for pennies to a weirdo.”

is this different than what is supported by, e.g., Ivory using Skybridge? haven’t tried either, but curious

Analogue Pocket A tribute to portable gaming.

It’s one of these.

“Out of the box, Pocket is compatible with the 2,780+ Game Boy, Game Boy Color & Game Boy Advance game cartridge library.”

do you think one of these libraries should be considered for inclusion in stdlib?

this was great. puts into words a lot of feelings i’ve had. a favorite is this bit:

“Humans hate (hate!) not knowing things. In the absence of information, humans tend to make things up to fill the vacuum”

Comes up anytime there is a time gap between announcing something and sharing the details.

Nice… Hopefully serverless is available in the regions you need. It’s hard to go back to classic.

Now you got me thinking… are ALL TCO analyses subjective? Is it possible to be objective about this? I guess it depends how you define “cost.” If we agree on those assumptions, we can…do our best?

i’ve said this many times, but never been at a rodeo. should i feel bad about it?

Is the absurdity rooted in the motivation to perform the analysis in the first place? Generally someone is backing into a decision that’s already been made, right?

AI and the automation of work — Benedict Evans ChatGPT and generative AI will change how we work, but how different is this to all the other waves of automation of the last 200 years? What does it mean for employment? Disruption? Coal consumptio...

Had a chat this weekend about AI automating people out of work (or not). This article discusses a lot of it. What are people’s thoughts here on this? I’m inclined to agree with the author, but I feel unqualified to make predictions, and also potentially biased.
