The rabbi's article describes groups active at the time and how they fit together. The Christian scriptures attributes actions to those groups but doesn't describe Pharisees as the leaders. That comes from post-biblical exegesis that probably started when the christ-followers separated from Judaism

In trying to explain the antisemitism, the article adds others. The photo that is described as "The Pharisees in Jesus Christ Superstar..." in the play and movie are credited as "Priests". (supported by the sadducees, a different group) Conflating different antagonists all as Pharisees doesn't help

(a co-worker talking about various estimation methods) "I don't care if they are using t-shirt size or jiffies to estimate..."
I asked "what's the conversion factor of t-shirt to jiffies?"
"eventually the conversion factor is dollars, but we can't figure that one out until the project is done"

it's hard to view a lot of the Democrats moves as a party as anything other than an attempt to fully divorce the left and to court any lingering white male populist types with squishy morals and values. they are not trying to appeal to the masses, they're trying to choose their own electorate.

You seem to be verging into repeating the Christian biases here. The Pharisees mostly disappear from narrative once Jesus reaches Jerusalem and isn't part of the deicide libel. But the need for the Pharisees to be what Jesus defeats they get inserted in the retellings where they aren't in the text

In olden times, you'd walk into a shop and look at, say, a cake, decide not to buy it, and walk out of the shop safe in the knowledge that nobody would be following you around with the cake for the next 6 weeks just in case you change your mind.

After the return from exile, some wanted to return to centralized temple worship. Others wanted the more expansive role of teachers and disciples, parables and other storytelling, teaching of a world to come, etc. After the temple was destroyed, this pharisaic movement was all that was left

The Pharisees weren't the state (the state was king Herod, the temple, and Rome) The Pharisees were populist promoting a path outside of temple worship, that after the temple was destroyed became the root of nearly all current Judaism. Christian Scriptures show a caricature

As the handout said, there is love and anger in both. If I had to draw a line between loving and angry (and ignore contrary passages), it would probably be somewhere in the prophets

A headline that reads Mass. races to regulate the Wild West of e-bikes and scooters

The image shows 2 cars hitting scooters and e-bikes and also, for some reason, a No Parking Anytime sign

Interesting illustration choice to go along with this headline. It's almost as if we need to talk about micro-mobility in the context of the danger posed by cars and unsafe infrastructure.

The thing with e-bikes is that we should be comparing them to *cars* and not bikes. 1/

This is the problem that I had with Ann Rice/Rampling's Beauty trilogy. Chapter after chapter of "I can't imagine being degraded in such a manner!" followed by her being degraded in precisely that manner, then finally her coming to terms with it

Trump is running an interesting experiment in how many self-identified Christian Americans have actual religious commitments and how many are just into it because it provides a means for the socially defensible expression of bigotry bsky.app/profile/bria...

Biking is not a luxury. It's a way of life.

If we talked about bikes, which actually reduce traffic, lower emissions, and provide affordable mobility, the same way they talk about luxury boats, maybe we'd finally get a federal e-bike rebate. Instead, we subsidize yachts.

What a government...

Contrary to public perception a huge % of pregnant teenagers in the 1990s were impregnated by adult men. The younger they were, the larger the average age gap between mother and father was. Fixing teen pregnancy was in part a clampdown on statutory rape. That's what conservatives want to reverse.

Along with Ben's points that there are steps between a historical Jesus' actual words in Aramaic to the English translated from Greek and traditionally named after Jews, there is also distortion in what books were canonized and which stories were lost, which passages are frequently taught vs ignored

There are passages Jesus debates them, he dines with them, where they protect him from assassination, and the "7 woes". For reasons the 7 woes sticks more than the others. There are also places where Jesus rebukes *hypocrites* (praying at the streetcorner, etc) that people misremember as Pharisees.

But within Christian scriptures it is framing the narrative with a Roman lens. "Do you want the insurrectionist killing the oppressive occupying army? Or the protester interfering with pilgrim's required rituals?"

Just looked at an online listing for a guitar that I've owned since the '80s and it reminded me of feature that I long forgot it even had (a pull up switch on the tone knobs to split the humbuckers into single coil)

Iconic Andy Singer cartoon with a driver saying “Public Transit wastes money. It always has to be SUBSIDIZED!” He is surrounded by evidence that driving is heavily subsidized. In fact, investing in walking, biking, public transit, and housing for the otherwise homeless saves public money.

One of the biggest disinformation campaigns ever applied to cities involves the constant claims that “driving pays its way.” It’s actually MASSIVELY subsidized, while things like walking, biking, public transit & supportive housing for the unhoused actually SAVE PUBLIC MONEY. #UrbanTruth
