It’s a read rather than a listen, but I’m going to share the whole recording soon
It was during lockdown, and I figured we’d just have a quick chat about the reissue of her Elektra albums, but wound up on talking for hours. She was awesome
I figured we’d just have a quick chat about Prince but wound up talking about him for a good 40 mins of the interview
Sorry, still a bit sleepy, it was Grammy nominated. Here’s my old piece about Patrice from 2021 daily.bandcamp.com/features/pat...
When a teenage Patrice met Quincy Jones, he told her “you’re gonna have to be very, very good” which she thought was curious advice until she delivered Forget Me Nots to her label who gave it a listen and suggested she stopped producing her own tracks. She paid for the promo herself. It won a Grammy
“Yeah man!”
It came out a decade ago. I was booked for a festival he was headlining, and they had to hastily find a new act and rework all the posters and promo a couple of weeks prior. He was never charged, but didn’t work again

Yeah, I'm not that fussed about rock guitar on reggae tunes, which is probably odd considering punky-reggae is my Mastermind subject, but there's a time and place.
Made me chuckle.
Reggae strings are very marmite, but there's some standouts, like when they come out of nowhere about 2 minutes into this version of Fatty Fatty www.youtube.com/watch?v=6orY...
Ha! I love a bit of stringsing up

Ages ago, I had a thread planned which went from French ballet to Glenn A Larson, Busta in Morecambe to Punjabis in Coventry, but there's still one piece of the puzzle which escapes me. Anyway, here's Mundian To Bach Ke in American Desi (skip to 7m 21s) www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FET...
A Philips Philicorda
I stumbled on this useless fact a few decades back when I bought a Philips Philicorda demonstration album which included some excerpts "from the ballet" with no credit to the composer. Thankfully my dad knew his Delibes. I sadly can't find the LP now, and it doesn't even seem to be listed on Discogs

Arguably the greatest hip hop record made by a guy who spent his summers as a kid in Morecambe, and sampled from a TV show about a talking car with a theme song based on a ballet written by French romantic composer Léo Delibes back in 1876
