100% effective greed enabled terminal guidance effective on biscuits, tennis balls, and some other things that should/should not be eaten
Hearing word of a complex new form of hybrid weapon operating in the UK, combines integrated forms of sleep denial, financial devastation, emotional trauma and hypersonic barking to utterly destroy the equilibrium of those who come to own it. Recent pic here @draefox.bsky.social
This is excellent, bracing and well argued - and free to access!
Something I am sure Churchill was seeking to obscure somewhat in the relevant passages of World Crisis given his own experience of escapades in narrow waterways in the wider region...
historically - tremendous professional knowledge and aptitude in 'operational' matters, but that has very limited carry over to being able to see war in broader terms
My personal experience was that whilst the military students I taught were immensely impressive in a huge number of ways, & had often experienced conflict in ways I (thankfully) never would, the breadth of their knowledge of war was surprisingly limited. Also reflected in the figures I study
Liked it so much @lmhalewood.bsky.social and I had to write about it: www.tandfonline.com/doi/epdf/10....
Irresistible opportunity to use the perfect Churchill quote from World Crisis: 'the Silent Service was not mute because it was absorbed in thought and study, but because it was weighed down by its daily routine...at the outset of the conflict we had more captains of ships than captains of war’

My limited powers are tied up attempting to edit past me's errors and shortcomings, unfortunately. I recommend @redunley.bsky.social as a man with the energy and expertise
Another FWW riff is to highlight the deeply faulty forms of civil-military interaction and intrigue that defined the decision-making process - if one can dignify it in those terms - behind the original plan, and it's subsequent creep into something never intended but which could not be backed out of
