Excellent piece from Liz Carr on the vote tomorrow in the UK.
It’s been kinda odd for me to hear my old home 🇬🇧 describing my new home’s 🇨🇦 attitude to assisted suicide. One journalist described it as dystopian. I have to agree.

I guess the NDP read the title of the rebate. This is beyond callous if that’s possible. $6.3b in a 2 month giveaway that ignores the most vulnerable disabled people compared to $6.1b over 6 years for the CDB.

… if he was to replicate their
behaviour, he gave them back. The town sang, wearing no masks, and he got the girl.
And to all a good night. And I’m happy to be called the grinch.
One day, an interfering child decided that she needed to disrupt his peace. Christmas spirit yadda yadda
yadda. A number of minor mishaps followed, and somehow, the man ended up with all of the town’s
presents. However, believing that the oppression would only continue …
the man’s childhood bullies
as its mayor. While the man exhibited a fair number of anti-social behaviours, these can only be
attributed to the oppressed life he had been forced to live as an excluded minority.
Many years later, the young boy had grown into a man, and had established himself as a keen champion
of the environment, recycling the vast amounts of waste from the selfish community in the valley below
– a community that cemented its ableist character by electing the leader …
Living a life of
misery, and left with no alternative, the poor young soul left the community that so cruelly rejected him,
and set up his home in isolation with a trusty 4 legged friend, a true companion. Finally, someone who
could see beyond his embodied differences.
The child was born with a different skin colour to the others in this community, additional facial hair and
an unfounded medical bias on the size of one of his internal organs. His school failed to enact its antibullying policy to such an extent that even the teacher was seen releasing a snicker.
Once upon a time, in a land far far away, a child was born to an elderly same sex couple. Now, that
might sound like an enlightened community, but it wasn’t. It was merely a façade for a consumerist,
capitalist society, held together by a tenuous link to a holiday in December.
A few years ago I was introduced to the grinch for the first time, the Jim Carrey version. I was totally confused how the grinch is meant to be the bad guy in this story, so I rewrote from a Critical Disability lens.
Follow along…
Such a monumental slap in the face to disabled people
