This is what I am thinking as well. Several research groups with their own expertise in sub topics. I'll go through the full list of questions but I think it would be great to keep building on this.
Congratulations, this is a great effort. Why didn't you try giving it access to tools/skills ? At 80% success it seems like we should already be making much harder benchmarks I guess.
Mine uses the free parts of the Chess Kid app but it is also a paid subscription. I am also interested if someone knows one.

Thank you for the write up. You say you don't need to fully understand the code. I understand you can validate the outputs but presumably you can also read the code and figure out where things may have issues. Once translated/optimised, you think validated with tests and benchmarks is enough?
