Accelerator Awards | Grant funding | Wellcome Eligibility and applications details for the Wellcome Accelerator Awards, which will support Black, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani researchers in the UK to make successful career transitions.

The scheme offers a flexible funding package of up to £200,000 for project expenses plus salary if required for research activities or activities adjacent to research to support successful onward career progression in academia.

How this dovetails with other sector activity and the wider corporatisation of culture is something we are very aware of and observing.

Yes I fully recognise that element. We made it a condition of grants to share progress and findings as part of this social experiment so by the end we should have *something* useful for everyone (I hope!)…

and we plan to share what we find from this exercise as a resource for everyone. It will also be helpful for us - IFRC was an experiment for us. If we do it again or another call like it, we will have loads of learning to help inform more equitable approaches in the future.

We have contracted a social research team (Studio Susegad) whose role is to help us piece together what we are finding out from these grants and what these findings then say about the academic system and Wellcome’s role in it. The community is open to everyone in the call (incl those not funded)…

Of course, but (hopefully) this isn’t the end of the road for funding like this or the opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing that will come out of it.

Currently away on parental leave so am distant from current day to day goings on but this is why we are trying to create an outward facing and transparent community with the outputs of the grants. The competition was closed to institutions where most Wellcome £ goes for strategic reasons but

Given that BlueSky has so few employees, I suggest that people do most of the work of closing right-wing grifters down themselves. Don’t name them or share them at all and block them individually. If the grifters are only talking to themselves, that will be enough to drive them off.
