One of my favorite pieces of literary criticism comes at the end of Guy Davenport's essay "The Geography of Imagination." He does a lengthy material (and social) analysis of American Gothic. a history of the balloon frame house; of glasses; of buttonholes on modern clothing; denim overalls.

Don’t miss our first story, “Song for the Once-Dead Earth” by debut author C.M. Sullivan (@cmsullivan.bsky.social).
"It's not easy to be both clever and moving, but [Redacted] manages this handily." 🥹 what a wonderful compliment.
Check out the whole issue here--it's amazing!

Happy New Story Sunday! This week, the very last story of Issue 5. In two short weeks, on April 19, our very first themed issue will launch! The Daily Tomorrow VEGETAL: this years coolest plantpunk SF event. For now, bask in the warm, reassuring rays of this very simple story with nothing to hide.
Incredibly honored by this generous description of “The Last God of Talam Dor” (@giganotosaurus.bsky.social) as “a devastatingly powerful story about love and faith.” Means a lot to see this one recommended. You can find it here:

Got time to check out a short before you finalize noms? Even if it's not to nominate, I'd love if you'd read "Because I Held His Name...". Maybe you'll love it too, if you like stories about identity, connection, power, and the loss of those. (And Alan Turing.) strangehorizons.com/wordpress/fi...
