I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
Thank you! :) I hope you can catch it.
One of them is that the paintings in my first book (Night Parade) are ordered according to the seasons, so as you flip through the book it takes you from summer, to fall, winter, spring, and then ends at a summer festival.
Thank you. :) Now that you know you probably won't be able to un-see it, as the same colors appear in so many of my paintings. I enjoy the way it lets them appear as a single body of work and not just individual images. (I have other hidden patterns in my work that people probably don't notice.)
Not specifically "ukiyoe" colors, as available/allowed colors changed from era to era during the Edo period, but I do restrict myself to a palette of traditional colors used in woodblock prints, nihonga, kimono dyes, and so forth. Using a limited palette is actually quite fun, I find.
My most recent interview with NHK World is up starting today, featuring a look into my work uncovering Fukui's local folklore: www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/...
Thank you! :) さきゅうさんのカード見ました!とてもよかったです!おめでとうございます!
Thank you! :)
And let them know you want me to do more! :)
I've watched a few unboxing posts of these online, and it's surreal to see your own card pop out and hear people comment on it.
Thank you! Yours are great too!
My new yokai-themed cards in Secrets of Strixhaven are out! The first one is based on a dorotabō, and the second one on ouni. The third one is I'm fairly sure the first time a Chōjū Giga-inspired M:tG cards has appeared.
I don't know what Moob is, but I was having all sorts of loading/posting issues last night.
Bluesky was having trouble posting images last night, so here his is now, in all his glory.
What lives in a cave, devours children, speaks human languages and mimics human emotions, and has a ridiculously phallic neck?
No, it's not a certain politician. It's this week's yokai, up now on my Patreon and yokai.com!

It's a joke about "qualia," a mystical concept that tries to smuggle spiritualism into empiricism. Google "Mary the Color Scientist" for a rundown of the thought experiment.
The joke is that a real person subject to the conditions of the experiment would want to murder the people testing her.
Maybe it's a question of whether it's tasteful or not? But I don't see any ethical violation here.
Surely this is no less ethical than buying a piece of furniture from a store and painting it?
It's not a copyright violation because you're not passing someone else's work as your own. Neither are you reproducing someone's work and selling copies of it; you're painting on a physical piece.
Not at the moment. This is the only storefront for now.
Tomorrow is your last day to pre-order my newest book and pick up rare, locally handmade, yokai-themed, traditional Japanese crafts!
Don't say I didn't warn you!

a painting of a fluffy, fat sparrow with its eyes closed, sitting in its nest
Why is this fat little sparrow so happy?
