Today I got a PR with 516 files and 134 commits.
I’m absolutely sure they read through it all, reviewed it closely and did not put AI in YOLO mode to break everything until they saw what they wanted.

I know AIs love emdashes but this is the first time I get to review a PR FULL of unicode encoded emdashes.

And I’m talking about \u2014 in the middle of a comment.

I think a fallacy developers fall into when engaging with AIs is briefly skimming through the output and saying “that’s exactly what I would have done”.
I find myself regretting not writing those lines sometimes, because I missed something. Not every time but it’s hard to discern in foresight.

Instagram showed me a reel of one dev influencer who said they won a competition for AI by using AI the day before to come up with ideas and then implement one of them.
That’s the most unnerving thing I’ve ever seen and the reason why I stay away from Instagram.

Little sideproject over the weekend:

A native #SwiftUI app to manage my selfhosted Komodo servers.

It’s not feature complete because Komodo has a HUGE API and I don’t want to port it all to swift. But it gets things done!

That makes sense!

I understand why not to a full git add -A to not commit files not intended to go into a particular change. It’s a good pattern to keep things limited as you say!

Just relaying what I see some people code. lol
(Nowhere near as structured and nice as your lib)

Sometimes I’m surprised the lengths people go when trying to not learn their tools.
Like why learn you can do ‘git add -A’ and have a good ‘.gitignore’ if you and just write 3 powershell scripts to parse git status, filter and add files one by one.

It’s incredibly disappointing to review vibe coded messes but it’s even worse when your comments are replied with copypasta from Copilot.

Today I spent my whole day explaining another human why their AI generated code does not work while they just feed my feedback to generate more non-functional output for me to explain.

This is my career now.

I truly despise the moment someone decided the best method of news distribution was newsletters.

The last app I want to spend more time on is my email client.

Whenever I hear about Gemini/ChatGPT/Claude integration in the OS I recall how iOS 6 had Facebook and Twitter integrations baked in.
Wild to think about it now.

As useless as Astro is, at least we got the chance to ship it.

My favorite piece of trivia of my hometown is that it is part of the Resident Evil canon.

I’m so jealous of Matcha. She can sleep in a perfect circle without an issue while if I put my head in the wrong position in my pillow I wake up with a sore neck.

Not confusing at all that this code base has a CheckBreakpoints() method followed by a BreakCheckpoint() call that must be explicitly called in that order to prevent deadlocks.

The only AI I really respect is Claude.

MF pushes back hard on me when it disagrees, refuses to do things and even leaves me homework when I ask it to do things.

The thing acts like me lol

It’s very sad to hear #pocket is going offline.
It was my favorite app for a very long time and my first big sideproject was to automate delivering your articles as magazines to Kindles!
During college that was one of the big places I always wanted to work at.

The whole argument of Facebook eavesdropping you to show ads is just a fallacy of people thinking they’re so unique you would have to spy on them to know they want a Switch 2.

I always do vibe coding.
I don’t code when the vibes are off, which is pretty much every day.

The discussion about there being too many stray cats on the streets causing havoc on the environment is completely wrong.
The real problem is that there’s few rats on the streets to keep cats entertained.
We need more rats on the streets.
