We are organizing a 7-day EMBO sponsored international workshop at the Indian Institute of Science (April 26-May 03, 2026). "AI-driven approaches in Structural Biology". Link: lnkd.in/gSGASks8.
Please retweet. Looking forward to seeing some of you in Bangalore!

Tis' the season to teach again!! After a good meandering summer. Our Autumn semester (we call it August semester at @IISc Bangalore) starts tomorrow. I am excited as my advanced sampling course starts Monday! The campus is bubbling with fresh faces too, which is always invigorating.
A double header this week at the Molecular Biophysics Unit, IISc Bangalore!! Two PhD colloquium from our group this week! Irawati on Wednesday and Harini on Thursday. Very proud of these two finishing up their PhD with really good work during their PhD training time.
Molecular Biophysics Unit at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is organizing a 2-day symposium (Apr 28-29) with "AI in biophysics" as its theme. You are cordially invited to attend this meeting!!
Visit our (in progress) symposium portal for more details. sites.google.com/view/ai-in-b...
And will top it off with travel to Europe/Copenhagen for a BPS thematic meeting on membrane organization in July. We are on!
This summer is going to be fun. Upcoming 3 PhD and 1 MS thesis defense. Students traveling , MBU organizing a 2-day national symposium at IISc with "AI in Biophysics" theme (updates soon), PhD admission interview week, of course drafts and reviews, etc etc.
And then yesterday, we got news of Sangeetha/Irawati's RGG-GQ (IDP-RNA) work getting accepted in Journal of Biological Chemistry!! Off we went to Glen Bake House (again on 80 ft road). With the ups and downs this paper has seen, we needed immediate gratification :-)
Srivastava lab have had some nice news this week. First, Harini's work on Glassy Dynamics in Biological Membrane got accepted in Journal of Chemical Physics!! We treated ourselves with Milano Icecream and Waffles on the 80 ft road.
Vivek Sharma (April), Jana Shen (May) and Caroline Lynn Kamerlin (June) follow Alex after March for this series. sites.google.com/view/mbu-inf...
We are excited to have @alexmackerell.bsky.social this month for our Integrative Modeling in Biophysics e-series!! It’s all about polarizable force field next week. #drude
Tues March 11, 5:30 PM IST (2:00 CEST, 7:00 AM USET) For details about this series, visit: sites.google.com/view/mbu-inf...
Srivastava Lab is all set for the Indian Biophysical Society meet. We are presenting 10 posters and 1 student talk. I shall be chairing a session on "Biophysics Across Length Scales" on the 2nd day. We are stoked and looking forward to the interactions!!

Excited to share what I’ve been working on with @tkaraletsos.bsky.social to transform the field of drug discovery with atomistic foundation simulation models!
I could not be more thrilled to be working with this dream team.

Interested in #RNA modelling across multiple scales? Join us for the @cecamevents.bsky.social meeting at SISSA, Trieste, May 19-22! www.cecam.org/workshop-det... We still have slots for contributed talks. Deadline March 23. Co-organized with @magistratolab.bsky.social and @marcodevivo.bsky.social
All heavy lifting by Vijay Subramanian, a @IISERPune BS-MS student, allowed by nice folks at Pune to do his MS thesis with me at Bangalore. Also thanks @DBTIndia (NNM) @IndiaDST
(NSM and MATRICS grants) @wellcometrust.bsky.social @India_Alliance (TSG) @iiscbangalore for the support!
We shortlisted a few candidate proteins that we will start experimental work now (putting our money where our mouth is !!). Looking forward to a very exciting collaboration with our NMR guru and my colleague, Ashok Shekar.
We ran the algorithm across 57 proteomes (we have made it fast and very high throughput using the Trie data structure for our fragment library). We claim that about 10-12% of proteins may be metamorphic.
We create and use fragment db from full repositories of PDB and AlphaFold and use entropy and other score to quantify the diversity of a peptide stretch to be in degenerate structural states. The algorithm allows us to identify the possible metamorphic region using a sliding window.
Very happy to present our new tool, Morpheus, that takes in protein sequence information and predicts fold switching behavior in proteins.
