Hi! Why not Go: Garbage collector, lack of compile time safety, lack of modern language features that we have in Rust. But this is not decided yet. I have worked with Go and would choose Rust over it anytime. Rust is fun to use and finding devs for it is not that much more difficult.

Shower thoughts: Give people something to think about by putting braille dots onto the surface of avionics equipment.

There's some spicy database changes pending that should improve performance. SFX has mostly been running great, but we want to fix those few overload situations as soon as possible.

My hobby is to add the word "metric" in front of imperial units.
Thanks to the metric pound they can never be sure if it's actually a thing or not.

We're in the process of fixing some important bugs before opening the site. SF2 users who never logged into SFX should now be able to recover their account if their password doesn't work (provided their email still works). [1/2]

I know we haven't been communicating enough about the recent progress in bringing #SoFurry back online - there's gonna be some updates in a few hours. We also have a dedicated sfx-discussions channel on Discord.

Normally we would've done all that in the background, but the forced move made that impossible. Also, the business model of SF is to be there for the users. We don't have a budget, employees, or really a business. (handful of ad banners that don't cover the cost notwithstanding)

I have been on a business trip for the past week, with no chance to work on SF. Terra is still on a business trip. We're the two critical resources for this.
Money isn't the issue right now, it's people. And it's more than just a server move, it's also about migration etc.

Every single update of Firefox now re-enables the sidebar. Time to switch to LibreWolf.

3) Backup server is up and running, has SF2 db loaded & working for the migration. This server will also get approx. $1000 worth of SSDs added once SFX is going.

2) Firewall is almost ready, after some issues initially, it seems to work now. We're gonna do some more testing just to be sure, then send it to the data center.
If this firewall shouldn't work out, there is a fallback solution but that's an additional $1500 - which we try to prevent [2/3]

1) The SFX server gets moved soon. We've already received the neccessary network config information for the new data center. No concrete date yet, but we hope it's not much longer now [1/3]

email from Microsoft stating that their TOS have changed

Yesterday it was announced that GitHub's CEO resigned and GitHub would be folded into CoreAI.

I got this email 10 minutes ago. Microsoft has updated the TOS of many of their products and it includes a large section on AI and the use of your "content".

We mourn the recent passing of @ofthewilds.bsky.social, one of the most prolific writers on SoFurry. You will be missed :(
