New leaves and flower buds on the Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy', petals from the Prunus avium 'Plena' falling like gentle snow, and the Davidia involucrata looks better each week!

Glorious display on the Judas #Tree in the grounds of St. Pancras School - and another beauty that we saw on our walk back from Landport Bottom in #Lewes yesterday.
New leaves on the Judas #Tree seedlings, flowers coming soon on the Guelder Rose, Pomegranate leaves shining in the sun, and hundreds of flower buds on the Spindle. Spring in #Lewes!
We often admire this #tree next to #Lewes River Lodge Surgery - Acer saccharinum, (Sugar Maple or Silver Maple).
The delicate new leaves are just unfolding.
Continuing our inventory of the trees in Lewes with Peter Thurman this morning - there is always something new and interesting to see!
At Malling Deanery Arboretum, these catkins on the Betula maximowicziana, (Maximowicz's Birch), were up to 15 cm long. The peeling bark looked good too.
Amelanchier blossom and bright pink flower buds on the Judas tree - two of the #trees we planted in Fitzgerald Road in 2022. Funded by a large donation from the Rotary Club of #Lewes.
Fluffy female flowers amongst the new pink-brown leaves on the Copper Beech outside South Malling Church, #Lewes - a very impressive #tree with a lovely shape!
At South Downs Road, #Lewes, this morning to weed and mulch the five #trees that we planted there in 2015/2016 - Acer platanoides, (Norway Maple), Prunus avium, (Cherry), Ulmus Americana, (Princeton Elm), Alnus incana, (Grey Alder), and Sorbus intermedia, (Swedish Whitebeam).
Very early "handkerchiefs" on the Davidia involucrata, Handkerchief Tree, at Malling Deanery Arboretum today. The white bracts surround the purple-red flower head. I wonder what we will see on the guided walks during Lewes Tree Festival?
Lots of new leaves and even some flower buds on the Guelder Rose, red leaf buds on the dwarf Pomegranate #tree, and hundreds of flower buds on the Spindle! Spring is here in #Lewes!
All of a sudden there are leaves and flower buds on our Hawthorn #tree! A few days ago there was only a glimmer of green. This morning, a female Sparrowhawk was sitting in the tree. Later, a Blackbird sat among the branches before flying down to our pond for a good bath. #Lewes
Bees and Bee-flies are busy on the Blackthorn and other blossoms all along Hill Road, #Lewes.

New leaves and Catkins on a favourite #tree - the fastigiate Hornbeam at the bottom of the slope of Abergavenny Road, #Lewes.
Despite the wind and rain, there are lovely blossoms on the Wild Cherry we planted at the top of Abergavenny Road, #Lewes, and the Willow behind it is full of fluffy catkins. Bees were buzzing over both #trees in the sunshine today.
We were back at Malling Deanery Arboretum, #Lewes, today to continue the #tree inventory, prune some trees, prop up the Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy', add a stake to the Cedrus Deodar, and weed around the base of some trees.
🌞 Another beautiful morning at Malling Deanery Arboretum to mulch the Handkerchief #Tree and Dawn Redwood that we weeded on Friday. 🌳 Visit the Friends of #Lewes website for details of how to book a ticket for one of our guided walks in June:

Working party at Malling Deanery Arboretum this morning to clear a path, remove some stakes and a cage, and continue our #Tree inventory. Coming soon - news of our guided walks around there, and Southover Grange and the Railway Land, in June, as part of our #Lewes Tree Festival.
New leaves and Catkins on the three Ostrya carpinifolia, (Hop Hornbeam #trees), that we planted in King Henry's Road, #Lewes.
Elm flowers are appearing on some of the ten Ulmus lutece #trees that we planted along the verge of Prince Charles Road - thanks to #Lewes District Council and East Sussex CC for including us in their grant from the Local Authorities Treescape Fund!
New leaves and flower buds are appearing on the Horse Chestnut #trees in Baxter's Field, #Lewes. Birds singing all around as usual!
Eye-catching Pussy Willow on the Railway Land Wildlife Trust - a touch of silver and gold!
Celebrating #trees at the Railway Land, #Lewes, today. An interesting talk from Buzz Club and a chance to make Hoverfly lagoons and bug bunkers to take home.
