This sequence of images totally looks like one of the face morphing sequences in the video for Michael Jackson's "Black or White" except it just keeps looping back to the same guy

Spoiler alert: The first 60 minutes are about the renewable energy technology, the last 30 minutes are about how we're being misled.

One of the points I tried to make clear in having this conversation was: I’m not a radical. I am a *boring middle-aged dad*, who’s raised tens of millions of dollars in venture capital, and worked in tech for decades. I have not lost my mind, or become an extremist. THEY DID.

This was one of the most interesting, candid conversations I’ve had while reporting from the tech beat.

@anildash.com did NOT pull any punches diagnosing what is happening with the tech industry.

If you feel like tech shit is melting your brain lately, read this

Still getting up the gumption to get myself out to some writing groups, maybe take some creative writing classes at PCC. Until then, I think I might keep trying to post things I've managed to finish to my blog

when someone tells me not to use em dashes because AI uses em dashes

FWIW, I have talked to non-tech folks using AI tools who *are* aware of the IP and artist issues. But it's handy / fun / enriching to them - and the negatives rank similarly to eating meat, driving a car, buying from amazon, flying on a plane, etc. It all feels bad but also worth it in the calculus

I mean, sure, I've in tech for much of my life too - going on 40 years since the first time I got paid for it. Of course folks don't pay attention to OS, search engines, or phone specs. Just like there's a dozen other fields in your life where the specifics are a blur. You still weigh options though

Like, people don't want what the AI boosters want, not exactly. But they don't want what I want - or what I think they *should* want. People want and care about entirely different things, much to my frequent surprise and dismay. And it's tough getting a handle on it sometimes.

This is the most frustrating thing being in this soup, these days. Turns out folks don't care nearly as much about privacy or the web or all the various things nerds like me think they should. Easy to point at the gap and say "no it's the children who are wrong" instead of trying to figure it out

Frankly, that's just as demeaning and solipsistic an attitude toward folks in general as the rich assholes have. Do you really think people in the world using this stuff don't have free will and motivations and judgements of their own, whereby they've decided that this stuff is appealing?
