Y’all on blue sky get to see my full legal name whereas those on the other apps still get the abbreviation. Feel special.

Have gone almost 3 weeks without any major migraine attacks (in fact, just had prodrome once that I was able to stop and it didn’t evolve into an attack). The longest I’ve ever gone nearly symptom free. And today my brain decides it’s a good day to dysfunction. 😩

What is this atrocity doing in the neurology office?

As your doctor, I CARE. The problem is that insurance does not. (And insurance is why it takes so long for your medications to be filled.)

In case anyone wasn’t aware, this is an anti for profit insurance account. I need to post this all over my office.

Thanks to @cannontekstar.bsky.social for making this graphic.

I hate when student evals say a student was quiet. Maybe some students are introverts and that's okay. Or are you creating an atmosphere that makes them uncomfortable to speak up? Regardless, I don't think it belongs in the evaluation. I’d love to hear thoughts of other MedEd folks.

I regret my life choices. I ate too much for lunch and now I just wanna nap.

I also learned recently that non medical people don’t call it postprandial fatigue but instead call it a food coma or the itis.

Sometimes I forget medicine is a whole other language

I’ll let my BlueSky followers know a secret that I won’t say on the other app.

I’m a doctor and I personally hate vegetables and exercise.

I know they’re important. I just hate them.

Finally got our pool up and running and I’m trying to use it regularly for exercise. Now I’m lying on the couch exhausted after a swim and regretting my choices.

My best friend and her husband have the same first name. It’s cute.

But we know who the superior Quentin is.

So while it’s still a decision based on multiple patient factors, saying outright that it’s contraindicated denies people what could be a very important treatment.

OCPs now have less estrogen than before so that lowers the stroke risk. And also, if there are no other stroke risk factors (DM, HLD, HTN, smoking), the overall risk of stroke with OCPs is definitely outweighed by the benefits in most patients with migraine with aura.

Once again, I had to emphasize for my students because they are still learning outdated information:

Having migraine with aura is not a strict contraindication to using oral estrogen based contraceptives.

I’ll shout it on the rooftops if I have to!

A female physician sits against a wall while holding her baby. The sun is setting outside and the light shines through a window in the darkened room. Her diplomas and white board with tasks are on the wall above where she sits. Her pager, phone, and laptop around her on the ground.

"For Just a Moment"

I wanted to capture the feeling of being a physician & mother. I remember the pager going off or worrying about presentations while feeding or changing my daughter. The moments where it could be just me and her, those needed to be carved out.
