Hell, it’s two days since we debarked and… It’s much more fair to say that I *still* miss it a great deal.

I am home, in bed, unwinding from an actually very easy redeye flight home, but my Brigadoon-at-sea has sailed off into the ether for another year and I miss it a great deal already.

327 days to go. Soon™️

Ink on paper drawing of a green cuttlefish riding a skateboard and wearing a SCABA (self-contained abovewater breathing apparatus) tank. It's a rebreather, with one hose bringing oxygenated water into the mantle and another hose at the siphon taking water away to have more oxygen added. The cuttlefish is also wearing a mask to keep water over its eyes so it can see better on land.

A very stylized - between clip-art and vintage tourist poster silk screen style - picture of a narrowboat, with a driver in the stern and a bird on a bush on the near shore.

I didn’t set this as the background image for March ‘26 in the iPad GCal app… I rarely even USE the iPad GCal app. But as I was calendaring one Boat! for work, I noticed this picture… of another near-and-dear Boat! style…

I am delighted!

I believe Smoot himself retired a while ago… so is there a Reference Smoot on file someplace, as the original is not available? (Oh, never mind, he was at ANSI. Still, I’m leaving this here)

I know I know. I keep saying it. But it keeps being true.

Dropping twitter really did translate to a 90% loss of income for Biscuit. Principles are great and everything but this financial year I've 'lent' Biscuit almost £800 and its super duper not sustainable. Buy our merch! Please!

It's a 12 (13?) week class, and you should really try to make it to all of them - or miss no more than 1-2 - AND it's a class that rewards study outside Tuesday nights. What we do in 3 months is considered to take >1y in the outside world.

No dance experience is required!

ANYWAY

The next Tech Squares class starts this coming Tuesday, 3 Feb. 2026, 8:00 PM in Lobdell, in the MIT Student Center (84 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge) (Annoyingly, if you're not in possession of an MIT ID you'll have to surf in to the building behind someone if you arrive after 7:30)

I go, on average, to more SD weekends and conventions annually than I do SF Cons these days - which is STILL very weird for me to contemplate.
I think it's a worthwhile hobby 🙂 - though for some reason most SD organizations refer to it as our 'activity'.

Actionable info in the next post!

The next Tech Squares class starts this coming Tuesday!

Tech Squares has been a significant driving force in my life for the last 23 years (eep...)
Because of it I've been able to go square dancing in 11 states, and 4 other countries. 1/

The *best-case* scenario is that agents of the state executed a man for exercising his Second Amendment rights.

Yet you won't hear a fucking word from Second Amendment advocates—though this is exactly what they claimed to fear for the last half-century.

Fuck all these fascists.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, could you please establish an official NYC Mayor account on Bluesky and post everything your office is currently posting on X over here?

And please remove all city accounts from X, which has become a CSAM creation and distribution site?

No money for Musk, ever, please.

Post image Sen. Kelly statement: Over twenty-five years in the U.S. Navy, thirty-nine combat missions, and four missions to space, I risked my life for this country and to defend our Constitution – including the First Amendment rights of every American to speak out. I never expected that the President of the United States and the Secretary of Defense would attack me for doing exactly that.
My rank and retirement are things that I earned through my service and sacrifice for this country. I got shot at. I missed holidays and birthdays. I commanded a space shuttle mission while my wife Gabby recovered from a gunshot wound to the head– all while proudly wearing the American flag on my shoulder. Generations of servicemembers have made these same patriotic sacrifices for this country, earning the respect, appreciation, and rank they deserve.
Pete Hegseth wants to send the message to every single retired servicemember that if they say something he or Donald Trump doesn’t like, they will come after them the same way. It’s outrageous and it is wrong. There is nothing more un-American than that.
If Pete Hegseth, the most unqualified Secretary of Defense in our country’s history, thinks he can intimidate me with a censure or threats to demote me or prosecute me, he still doesn’t get it. I will fight this with everything I’ve got — not for myself, but to send a message back that Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump don’t get to decide what Americans in this country get to say about their government.

NEW: Sen. Mark Kelly RESPONDS to Pete Hegseth for censuring him, cutting his military pension, threatening to demote his rank, and warning of possible criminal prosecution for telling soldiers to obey their oath.

The Epstein Files Transparency Act is a law, passed by Congress on November 19 with an overwhelming vote. Complying with it was not optional. The Department of Justice did not comply.

I want to make sure this is very clear.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has stated that the 1918 flu pandemic was caused by a lab virus from vaccine research, a defective influenza vaccine. Let’s analyze what a lie this is. First, in 1918, 107 years ago, virology was in its infancy

It’s a terrible term, when looked at objectively.
