Capitalists care only about individualized wealth. They don’t give a shit about the system as a whole. And even the wealthiest will be fucked when the whole thing collapses. Socialists understand that for things to truly work, everyone has to have enough money to keep the system flowing.

We’re so entrenched in the cult of individualism in the U.S. in particular that like half the country subscribes to this idea that it’s Good, Actually, if the wealth gets concentrated and fewer and fewer people are able to participate in the economy by buying stuff. “That’s just meritocracy!”

I keep coming back to “one of the most crucial differences is between people who understand systems and people who don’t” but advocates for capitalism don’t understand that individual wealth means nothing if systemic wealth is so bad that the economy locks up and collapses.

I like this idea though but I think businesses should need to justify ANY layoffs to the government. The department of labor and the department of defense should have their budgets switched.
