Alison & Adam are one of the all time great comic book couples, up there with Jack & Roz and with Amanda & Jimmy. Both fabulous artists, but Adam might be THE brightest star in my generation of US superhero comics artists, who taught and inspired so many of us.

This is true, and it's honestly a stunning turn. When I heard David Gabriel was out at Marvel yesterday, I had to confirm with four different people until I finally believed it. I'll be writing about this later, but I definitely did not see this coming.

There were exceptions (there always are).
There was Kevin Nowlan. Quietly showing everyone how its done.

Many of the superhero comics lost 'the brush'. Shading didn't blend or merge. Images were scratchy. There was no understanding of light source. Or positive/negative space.
A lot of ignorance of technique as classic illustration (400 years of experience) was no longer a source of inspiration.
