Here's my Mastodon profile, if you wanted to follow me. I quite like People Making Games, it's a nice server. I get that people on BSky are often here because of drama and bullshit, not despite it. But it's nice to have a more quiet, less infuriating space to go.

Shamanism, Daoism, and the Kargaly Diadem The Kargaly Diadem is a magnificent golden artifact from a nomad tomb in the Tian Shan region of Kazakhstan. In 1939 it was "found by chan...

There are vast rabbit holes to follow on all sides of this. For example: at the eastern end of the Scytho-Siberians - there is the Kargaly diadem. It depicts a mix of shamanist and Han Daoist imagery of immortals riding animals to the Otherworld, deer included.

Yes. There's a 1953 edition on Archive.org, but I'd have to check what edition my copy is. It's a big heavy black canvas book. :)

The authoritative book on the topic is called "Frozen Tombs of Siberia", so pretty much - wooden roofs of tombs got broken in or damaged over time, filled with water and frozen. I think some of these even remained in a looted tomb, because felt and fabrics didn't interest the tomb raiders.

So it's possible the horse - an earthly mount of the deceased person, was transformed via fake antlers into a divine psychopomp meant to guide them into the Underworld.

It's largely speculative, but what I've read is that elk, deer and sometimes goats were somehow related to death and the Underworld in Scytho-Siberian religion. Esther Jacobson-Tepfer wrote several books on the topic, she thought the Deer was a Persephone analogue, a Mountain Mother of Animals.

People post screenshots of antiwoke twitter influencers slopping for engagement - "I see the strangest takes on Pragmata, it's so odd.".
Bro why are you still on twitter.

An experimental 90s tokusatsu miniseries, like if Mamoru Oshii did Orochi the Eight-Headed Dragon. Little dialogue, no irony-poisoned "videogame" writing, unclear story, lots of atmosphere on a budget and cool (if slightly goofy) fights with practical FX weird little guys and giant monsters.

Easley is by far my favourite of the TSRists. I think I appreciate his art isn't just figures posed to look pretty, there's storytelling, fun and a ton of visual drama. Just overall a lot less static and sterile than some of his contemporaries.

The origin of the modern slang term 'to yeat' something (probably).

Oh no, look what you've done!

Aside from the very interesting gameplay, I also appreciate character designs which seemingly skew towards horny in a cool way. (= neat off-shoulders waist jacket rather than just booba boobing boobily)

The head of the Lučan army also wears a pretty sick spangenhelm.

It's also interesting for a few "historical" reasons and I'd love to know if they did this kind of research back then - but the fact the Czechs mostly use axes, spears and knives (not swords), or that their shields don't have bosses/umbos (which we don't have finds of in this area, afaik).

I can still describe the scene I would dream about many times, and for a long time I could swear this was an actual movie:
An army of warriors goes to battle against a horde of furry monsters. The monsters are defeated, but come back to life with the sunset and eventually slaughter all defenders.

Seeing this film on TV as a child and watching my dad play TES:Arena (I think the parts where trolls can't be killed without silver or fire, that they get up after being "killed") mixed in my growing brain and created an animated horror memory that never existed, but did give me nightmares.
