in honor of Artemis II, been tuned in to Deep Space One all week. 🌚
rediscovered @somafm.com around christmas looking for themed background music. haven't stopped since. months of it now. perfect for work or dinner in the background.

Screenshot of a browser window with an interactive graphic. At the center is the Earth. The Moon is in the upper right, with the line of its orbit drawn across the screen from right to left. A loopy blue line leads from the Earth to a point further along the Moon’s orbit in the upper left, and back to Earth. A circle on the blue path is labeled “Orion”, which is the name of the spacecraft for the Artemis II mission. At the bottom of the screen, four dials show the mission elapsed time, Orion’s velocity, its distance from Earth, and its distance to the Moon.

Got another scam/phish email about a "CJIB fine" — been getting these since Odido's fuck-up. But credit where it's due: "mallorcaimmobilienkongress.de" as from-address is certainly a choice.
For those curious how all this time works, it’s pretty simple. 360° / 24h, so 1 hour every 15°. The Netherlands sits from ~3° to ~7°, Amsterdam being at 5° hence +00:20 relative to 0° at Greenwich. That way the Sun will be closest to top at noon. And +2 is at 30° way further east.
The Netherlands just moved to summer time, resulting in UTC+2, which should be around Minsk, Kiev, not Amsterdam. And now there is no Nazi to blame. EU even recommended to remove clock shift back in 2018 but nobody could agree on what time to stick with.
Browsing Flickr in 2026 feels like checking those old phpBB forums. And some of those are still true gems — the only source on certain topics. Stood the test of time, while all these socials come and go.
indeed it feels like for GitHub to save themselves, they need to ditch Copilot and go all-in on revamping their core offering for agentic coding. Or Microsoft juggernaut will just ruin another one
One nonobvious thing I learned from a decade of occasional acute disc/nerve flare-ups (in lower back): stay as mobile as you can tolerate. Bed rest makes it worse.
not really. 30mm but half frame makes DoF deeper. with f/11 the depth is roughly 1m-10m and it’s easy to get true infinity if needed
and I guess for the first time I used slo-mo 240fps video on my phone. Turned out to be a nice way to approx. test shutter speeds.
every format has its pros and cons. this one is truly pocketable and you don’t really need to focus as it’s almost always in hyperfocal. But of course shallow depth of field has its own charm.
It’s a half-frame camera - each shot is 24×17mm instead of the usual 36×24mm on 35mm film. That’s why the default orientation looks portrait. And you get about 72 shots on a 36-exposure roll.
Olympus Pen S half-frame film camera
In these times of AI and automations, I could not not buy another mechanical film camera. It’s ~65 years old, all shutter speeds are slow, so needs some cleaning. But hey, it shoots in portrait orientation by default, right into the socials!
oh, and when I finally plan my trip to Japan, I guess I'll need to double the budget, half of it will go straight to film cameras
eBay has always been a mess. Nothing really changed in 20 years since I first used it. The UI is fucked up as ever. Yet it's still the only place where you can actually find rare stuff internationally.

interesting to observe the line of what AI can already "compute" internally (e.g. turning text with dates into a usable calendar view). Where it is reliable enough that you don’t need external tooling. Let's call it "deterministic line".
Finally getting close to combining todos, reminders, notes, and calendar in one place. Haiku 4.5 has no problem running it. Need to test with GPT-mini/nano, which are even cheaper. Kinda pico-zepto-claw.
