Congrats to the UMassD GSU members who worked so hard to get here & the whole UMassD Maintainers community!

This movement began more than two years ago, unifying staff from across Berklee's Boston campus, including both the College of Music and Boston Conservatory.
Congratulations, BCM & BCB Staff Union! AFT MA is proud to support your incredible organizing.

Together they brought attention to the fiscal crisis many districts are facing, the need for strong state investment to support our schools, libraries, and universities, and ways to protect our most vulnerable students during these uncertain times.
President Tang and Lawrence Teachers Union President Kimberly Barry were invited to testify before the MA Legislature’s Joint Committee on Ways & Means yesterday about the FY27 budget.
Chelsea can still do the right thing and put together a budget that puts students first. We stand with our @ctu1340.bsky.social members and the entire Chelsea community in this fight to protect their students.
Chelsea's proposed budget would cut 70+ educators—meaning larger class sizes and major disruptions in services. Focusing cuts on teachers, counselors, & social workers who work directly with Chelsea students will only widen the opportunity gap that @ctu1340.bsky.social members work so hard to close.
@ctu1340.bsky.social members watched on proudly as hundreds of their students made their voices heard, advocating for themselves, their classmates, and their school community.
Over 500 Chelsea community members, students, and @ctu1340.bsky.social educators came together last night at the city's school budget hearing calling on the city to come up with a school budget that is good for students and fair to educators.

But so many people showed up to make their voices heard that the chambers couldn't fit everyone! Students demanded a venue change large enough for **everyone** to be heard, and the School Committee rescheduled the hearing to Tuesday.
Never underestimate the people of Chelsea.
See you Tuesday 💪
Did you see what Chelsea did? 👀
Last night, 400 @ctu1340.bsky.social educators, students, and community members turned out at the School Committee budget hearing to give feedback on their proposal to cut *76* student-facing positions (and zero central office staff) amid an enrollment crisis. (1/2)
Last Saturday, over 250 activists from 70 local labor & community groups gathered for the first MA Fight Back Table Solidarity School. We were lucky to be joined by so many inspiring speakers!

“And it is teachers themselves who have been integral to the fight when there has been authoritarian backsliding.”
Thank you for having us, HKS!
“I don’t think it’s a coincidence when you study authoritarianism in other countries that it is the universities that are attacked first. It is public education system that is impacted at the very beginning,” President @jessjtang.bsky.social told Harvard Kennedy School students. (2/3)
President @jessjtang.bsky.social joined Harvard Kennedy School’s Labor Rights Caucus, Education Caucus, and Professor Archon Fung today for a discussion of public education and unions’ roles in combating rising authoritarianism. (1/3)
Greenhalge Elementary’s adoption of the community school model has been transformative for its students and families, and we’re always eager for a chance to show our support and gratitude to the amazing educators there!
