Estimates show the 1918 flu epidemic killed about 45,000 US soldiers, about 38% of the total US military deaths in WWI. The flu and its secondary illnesses made up the majority of death by disease. Thousands (possibly as many as 36,000) died before making it from basic training to the battlefield.

Investigating literal Nazis is bad now.
It should be noted that Bovino is actually describing mass ethnic cleansing, not mass deportations.

I don't think it's something to apologize for, this is deeply hurtful stuff. To see people choose their religion over their kids or their families is so damaging, and I'm truly sorry that you're experiencing that. And you're totally right, we've seen the "this is the cool pope" story before.
I am sorry to hear that. And to be clear, I am not minimizing any of what you're saying. I would never go back, and the church's regressive views on gender and sexuality were my very first issue. And as you say, the church gets good press for one thing while not budging on many others.
This is now just Bad Theology Bingo. We have, aside from all else, now ‘Demonizing Pharisees’ and ‘Casual Antisemitism/supercessonism’ so check your cards everyone.
What a fucking weirdo!
I continue to hope that everyone who buys this crap feels very empowered to stay out of our town. It's a drag when the line at Sea Salt gets too long.
ConservatIves used to call these kids sinners. And they’d punish them for being pregnant young. Surreal how they change once racist eugenics are what is valued.
Oh my.
Well, public historian now. But it's a question of Twin Cities musical history, too!
She was a force! We had our battles, but ultimately she was a woman who did what she wanted, and no one was going to tell her how to live her life. I think we mutually respected that about each other.
Awww!
The Cathedral is so extra!
OK we need to ask why no one is talking about the guy who rides his motorcycle down Marshall Avenue on every nice day absolutely blasting Prince's "Erotic City."
Oh I love the drama. He should have (jokingly) offered her an indulgence!
Makes sense to me -- I can't quote that many Bible verses, but "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God" is hard to improve on! So many people seem to yadda yadda that one.
I still think atheists are more likely to be moral, as long as they are the ones who don't talk about atheism all the time.
LOL! I was worried my grandma would pull something like this (though we had not a priest in sight), but in the end she was cool. (This is my grandma who "hated feminists" but got a master's degree in the 60s as a single parent and had a pilot's license at 17.)
My next Catholic hot take that will get me canceled is that being super into Augustine is like loving The Doors after college.
I would not be surprised if Vance thought that he could be the conservative Catholic champion and maybe lead the schism himself. But ... c'mon bro, no one is going to follow you anywhere.
But I suspect even the arch conservatives in the Church are going to find it hard to get on board with such blatant and facile beefs that the administration is starting. So now I don't know what to expect.
I think Francis realized that. I think the U.S. Church has been very close to a schism, with conservatives breaking away. So many progressive Catholics have left, and I think the center of gravity has been moving right. But this seems like a wrench in that dynamic. Not sure what will happen yet.
"YFMMV" lol this is extremely true.
