It’s hard for me to appreciate what this would have sounded like to someone who hadn’t already heard what came after.

At some point it becomes politically viable to say what’s been true for a long time.

Donald has stood up and said “America will never be a socialist country” and powerful people understood that to mean that their power and wealth will never be under threat while he has the power to protect it.

I just don’t think people realize that anything that threatens the wealthy’s privilege and power, whether that is safety regulations, a living wage, non-denominational prayers, public transit, public pools, gender neutral bathrooms or even food assistance is all communism to them.

Who wins? Capitalists.

Who loses? Everyone else.

For heck’s sake… they got mad that Disney was making movies that acknowledged the existence of queer people and Target for marketing pride products.

Communism is anything that challenges their hegemony.
