Had a great time fly fishing loch style today with a new friend. The weather was ideal and the trout were far more active and willing to chase our flies. We even managed a couple of double-headers, which made the day’s adventure all the more exciting and enjoyable!

Had a terrific time hanging out and fishing with some friends on an interior lake near Kamloops. The beautiful colouration and markings of our province’s rainbow trout, as well as the sport that they provide, never ceases to amaze me and I never take for granted…

Had an enjoyable time at one of my local lakes today. The weather was ideal but unfortunately the water clarity was less than ideal, as a result of turnover.

I did manage to catch a few trout, by casting weighted nymphs on slow sinking lines to rising fish.

Tying up a few of my favourite stillwater patterns today, with great hopes and optimism with each and every pattern completed. Hearing more and more reports of the local lakes shedding their blankets of ice, and so, the countdown begins… 🙂

Tying some nymphs based on notes and observations from past journal entries. Hopefully these bad boys will produce some fish! Fingers crossed…

Spending more time at the fly tying bench these days makes me realize just how much I enjoy fly tying and playing around with patterns, materials, and hooks.

How about you? Do you find more inspiration at certain times of the year??

I find that I am much more inspired to sit down at my vise and tie flies when it finally feels as if spring has arrived and reports of ice-free lakes start trickling in...

Yesterday afternoon I stepped outside just in time to enjoy and photograph this spectacular sunset. The fiery glow of the sun, cast through the trees and reflected from the river and snow, reminded me of the brighter and warmer days ahead…

Enjoying organizing and adding another workstation in my woodworking shop. It’s been a great way to shake off cabin fever and stay out of my wife’s hair. Just need to finish building and installing the cabinet doors…

As a woodworker I accumulate a fair amount of "off cuts" from the various projects that I build in my workshop. Storing them while trying to find a purpose for them is a constant struggle, but today I finally figured out the most practical use for them... #woodworking #backyards #kamloops #campfires

Yes, our lakes have an abundance of aquatic life, which accounts for the rapid growth rate and sizes of our brook trout and rainbows. Here’s an example of the size that our rainbows trout are capable of reaching at 2-1/2 years. This one measured 21 inches and 3.6 pounds (I kept this one for dinner):

Agreed! There’s nothing better than a shore lunch of fresh trout when camping!
Here’s a photo that gives you an idea of the growth rate of our eastern brook trout that are stocked as fingerlings (average size 7.736 grams ) after living for 16 months in one of my local lakes:

I know that brook trout are the native trout for your part of the country, and rainbows very popular, but do they having stocking programs for your lakes that use brook trout as well?
The lakes in my region that are stocked with both eastern brook trout and rainbows are very popular with anglers.
