At the European #RuleofLaw Conference 2025, experts @onethuthree.bsky.social, Nicholas Aiossa, @kizdebski.bsky.social, & @jakubjaraczewski.bsky.social will address the elephant in the room: will the EU finally build an instrument to stop backsliding, or just add another paper tiger to its toolbox? ⬇️

🇵🇱🗳️⚖️ Last week has been a rollercoaster in Poland over the irregularities in vote count for the recent 2nd round of the presidential election. TL;DR my take: yes, there were irregularities, but the result of the election doesn't appear to be in doubt. 1/
📢You don’t need a disinformation spike to shift public opinion – just a steady drip of doubt.

A text from a White House advisor to me:
Zelenskyy is a hero. Trump and his team are cowards. Simple as that.
It is not complicated. There is one basic thing that has to be our contribution. Solidarity with Ukraine.
I do, of course.
The whole pitch about the immediate need for elections in Ukraine is mainly to then not recognize the result.
If we are going to deal with Trump on security issues, why not directly with Putin. Why do it through intermediaries?
@mariaskora.bsky.social examines the Polish gov's efforts on how to tackle undemocratic reforms with legitimate, democratic measures & @kizdebski.bsky.social the gov’s Action Plan: he says it lacks concrete proposals & substantial changes aren't implemented yet.

Are you curious about how the restoration of the rule of law in Poland is going generally and in specific details? Read this great @verfassungsblog.de symposium. @jakubjaraczewski.bsky.social @kizdebski.bsky.social @mariaskora.bsky.social ‘s pieces are out and more to come
True. That's why I commemorate your job with this particular link. Thank you!
Quote from our published article by author Krzysztof Izdebski: "At the same time, it is fully justified to say that in the layer of real change, basically nothing has been achieved."
The Polish government has made some important proposals for restoring the Rule of Law in Poland in its Action Plan.
However, substantial changes have not yet been implemented, argues KRZYSZTOF IZDEBSKI (@kizdebski.bsky.social)

The second contribution, by @kizdebski.bsky.social on the winding road to mountaintop on the rule of law where you lose travel items along the way (seriously, Krzysiek is a master of intertitles) is up, looking on just how hard this road is.

Wszyscy o społecznej odporności to ja też. Zachęcam do lektury mojego tekstu na ten temat. Trochę uporządkowania tematu w nieoczywisty sposób, odniesień do poprzednich kryzysów i rekomendacji co robić by organizacje i obywatele byli bardziej odporni. www.batory.org.pl/wp-content/u...

How about bringing Warsaw to Budapest?
Everything is still in the hands of the Supreme Court - one of the chambers being challenged by the CJEU. Welcome to Polish (anti-) rule of law hell :) 3/3
This is due to an earlier rejection of the Law and Justice Electoral Committee's report. This, in turn, was taken because it was deemed (rightly) that the party had drastically and dishonestly used public resources in the election campaign. 2/3
Poland's National Electoral Commission, ruled today that Jarosław Kaczyński's Law and Justice party will not receive as much as PLN 75 million in subsidies (a little less than €20 million) by the end of the parliamentary term. 1/3

I understand the need for realpolitik in politics, and yes, Orban is, in this context, a good connector. But...on the other hand we can't lose what's the best in the EU. It's values.
That's the strong spirit!
Add me, k....a!
Ok. It looks like a very constructive and peaceful place. I am not used to it as a CEE citizen and socmed user.
So..what are we supposed to do here? Can we argue a bit, or shout at each other?
