That is what we generally do. Our provincial government first: set the terms of the boundary commission, which was ridiculous
Second: has decided not to accept the results even though they’re in the favour of the current govt - but seemingly because they’re not ENOUGH in favour of the current govt.

This is American, then? Thanks for the list. In Alberta we also have a far too lengthy list.
I would love to avoid that headache by fighting gerrymandering before it begins.
It’s fine.
In Canada, provinces have independence on provincial electoral issues.
Yes, if you read the entire thread you will see that I was referencing the situation in my corner of the universe - talking about local concerns.
It definitely got caught up in the global algorithm storm, though!
Haha, well, life goes on, right? I feel that these responses had zero to do with me at all.
Very passionate engagement on understandable assumptions is more of a chance to listen than to worry about my fanny, which is - genuinely in self deprecation - quite irrelevant to any proceedings.
I’m not sure how many were bots vs human! Haha.
Thank you for engaging and clarifying. I am very empathetic to the constant state of stress folks are under. Panic mode as a default must be emotionally and physically exhausting - leaving little room for quiet contemplation.
We very much relate.

It’s a really fascinating case of the algorithm doing its thing.
I’ve never received US-based attention for my posts and so this kind of came out of the clear bluesky.
But very telling in how our reality is curated by math designed for human emotional engagement.
Organic impulse machines.
This got picked up by our American counterparts and the comments show the serious risk we are facing when politicians get to set their own electoral
boundaries.
So much wasted time, anxiety, and resources when the answer is simple:
Be ethical.
This seems to have caught the attention of our US neighbours. Hello!
I am currently talking about our provincial government engaging in potential gerrymandering.
It’s no surprise to me that it hit a chord with you all - as what you are going through is precisely what we need to avoid up here 🇨🇦
Hi! My post is about gerrymandering in Alberta, nothing to do with your issues in the US except for the fact our provincial government appears to be cribbing notes from your GOP.
Hi! Talking about a local issue in Canada, here.
-
But following your concern, that is exactly the battle that occurs once parties start gerrymandering. It becomes a battle as you folks are seeing in real time.
Hi! I am from Canada speaking about a local issue! Good luck to you all, though!
It wouldn’t matter which political party or government was engaged in these actions, I would condemn them all equally.
As should you.
No politician in good conscience could ever truthfully defend such crass and disturbing ambition.
You will have no say in this decision. You will only have a say in the election to come.
A say that has been diluted by the worst impulses of a political Party with seemingly no guiding principles of good and selfless governance.
This is absolute corruption, in case anyone was wondering.
At no point should elected officials be involved designing their own electoral boundaries.
Especially in their own favour.
Win by doing a good job, not by stealing the voices of the electorate.
Ok, why do you feel it’s an issue? Happy to learn!
Great question. Many of the delays in schedule are literally caused by folks not moving their cars.
Whoever thought the Bibliotank would actually have to defend its books from outside forces?
Thoughtless words create a thoughtless world.
This seems like a pretty simple statement but is the root of so many of the absolutely avoidable problems and chaotic results we are seeing in the world today.
Thoughtlessness in terms of the greater humanistic and natural world is absolutely dangerous

The UCP has forced every municipality in Alberta to repeal any bylaw placing limits on election signs on public property.
This means signs can be:
✅ in intersections
✅ in public parks
✅ unrestricted in number and frequency

A stylized image of winter. A woman’s face - hair crowned with a gold leaf halo - within an outline created by negative space filled with the black night sky, stars, the moon, and bare trees. The field upon which the outline stands is an ultramodern one blue with a snowflake motif.

Councillor Motion for Snow and Ice Surge Capacity Some folks may want to know about next steps. I will be making the following notice of motion next Tuesday at the Urban Planning Committee. That means it will be debated as one of the last items in the following Council meeting. Here it is:
**That Administration provide a report, based on public feedback and industry best practices, outlining options and financial implications for a Snow and Ice Control "Surge Capacity" strategy to ensure timely service delivery during unexpected or extreme precipitation events, including:** **1. An operational analysis of projected extreme weather frequency based on current climate modelling and Climate Resilient Edmonton data; and** **2. Mechanisms to scale resources (example: on-call private contracting, emergency procurement) to meet Service Level Agreements when accumulation exceeds base fleet capacity.**
**3. Return with unfunded item specific strategies to prioritize accessibility and mitigate mobility barriers for seniors and persons with disabilities during these surge events. (Example: more proactive crosswalk and access point windrow removal and clearing)** *(wording subject to change slightly through refinement and consulting with Admin and colleagues - this is a normal process)*
What this would do, if passed, is ask City Administration to return to Council with a report on the listed items. In conversation with Administration, we can clarify the intent of the report and more clearly define what Council would like to see. What many might not know is that a budget is set in advance, and then Administration essentially configures for that budget. When it come to Snow and Ice Control, that means "X" number of plows, graders, etc. are on hand - according to the approved budget. In 2024, if Council had voted to substantially increase service levels and purchase more graders, Administration would have begun the procurement process.

Want to build your own Snow & Ice Control budget?
I built a tool using city data. You can adjust budget, see the tax result, & run sims on how the last month of snow events played out.
It’s transparent, interactive, and hopefully not boring.
