One reason evangelicals are so freaked out by trans people is that purity culture depends on a binary understanding ànd enforcement of gender in order to impose control and to perpetuate that control. This is a fear-based system, not a rational system.

Purity culture is, at its foundation, à culture of control. Purported to be àbt self-control, purity teachings use shame, ignorance and fear to perpetuate ideas of white supremacy and patriarchal power.
