It’s a great little machine. The only downsides is the unique presser foot mount. But if there’s a cabinet, I bet there’s a few presser feet to keep you sewing in one of them drawers. The bobbin winder mound can be finicky too. It’s not held on with anything permanent so it can pop off easy…

So cool!!
The things I would do a checklist for
Bobbin case
Replace the rubber tire on the motor axle and bobbin winder (often sold as sets)
Check the motor brushes (should be fine, yours looks pretty clean and not like 100s of hours have been on it)
Throw some thread in and see if it stitches!
Maybe one day it’ll be easy to find them, via their headstones
I used to have a telegram profile that joined all the neonazi groups so I could see what they were responding to and keep an eye on what we should brace for. Had it since 2015. Now I never go on that telegram channel, I just open my twitter.
It’s not 8am but I’ve already learned one of the things today will teach me.
I tried to call the cunt bigots on Twitter Cretans, but it kept forcing capitalizing, so I looked the word up.
THEN I changed the spelling to cretin and looked THAT up.
Ummmmm, neither of those are in any way acceptable.
If you search the term “Shreveport” on formerly known as Twitter, the algorithm exposes a society not dissimilar to the creatures who dwell under a fallen log in the woods.
Except these Neanderthals refuse to scatter and instead throw their flags of filth above their tiny-brained heads with pride.
There’s a sizable Iranian immigrant community here in Toronto, both first-generation and expats. I’ve spoken to enough of them to gather that among those who escaped the regime, they’re glad someone is doing something. They all just don’t trust who’s carrying it out.
I think (if that’s the general model) they’re called Rotary’s because a rotating hook was new. I believe the more common sewing action before was a rocking back and forth, which can be prone to skipped stitches and vibration. Great machines. It’ll take any home sewing thread you throw in it.
Is it the one with a brownish textured body, and silver details? If so, I’ve got one and it’s fantastic. It’s pretty powerful and the foot lift is high enough for most projects. It’s a beautiful stitch too. All I needed to do was replace the rubber on the motor that turned the flywheel. $10..
This new machine is my first “new” machine, and before Friday I hadn’t spent more than $$250-no I take that back, the buttonholer was $350 WHICH IS CRAZY FOR THAT MACHINE.
But I feel you, the hunt and bargain is almost as fun as the sewing!
Yeeaaaaasss
Yeah broken because the needle was in backwards or the thread path was a rats nest is my fave. Once I felt so bad for the lady with a really nice brother, I couldn’t buy it. Her bobbin was threaded backwards..she gave me a few yards of nice wool for my troubles tho.
Dude the motor on them kens is no joke. The 60s-70s 1.3amp pot motor competes in a different class. I nearly grabbed one instead of this new monster, but the 12mm presser foot height on the HD9 is what won me over.
I LOVE the Kenmore/WHITE/Domestic linup.
I HUNTED for a machine that could meet my needs, that was moderately portable so I can still create when I’m away from the shop on my day job, and this is the only option both new and old that met all of them.
Straight stitch only, so it’s time to get couture on my edge finishing. Sews like a dream.
Oh heck yeaaaaaaa
We be messed in da head
A new Janome HD9 sewing machine in all its glory.
In the wise words of Stewart Smalley
“I good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggon it, people like me. I deserve good things and I’m entitled to happiness.”
They sure did.
Well, then you know that’s the last good movie I made.
(to be taken as light hearted self deprecation)
My aunt when I asked her if she wanted them, along with a picture of me wearing them from the day I found them
“Apparently you can put lipstick on a pig”
Call me jester but I’ll take it
Thanks Rachel
Those are my great grandmas pearl earrings BTW

Not good guys. Not looking good.
A blockade of the strait by the US Navy means China is cut off from its main source of energy. It’s hard for me to grasp how any gains here warrant the extreme volatility.
Fucking hell. The talks between the US and Iran looks to have failed.
What have I done
So excited to get this beast mounted and powered. My day job is gonna delay that a min, but it’ll come. It’ll come.
I’ll walk it home if I have to.
Up here in Toronto! I saw it when I visited Sunny on a job she was working, wound up here myself in a whirlwind only our industry can whip up, and saw it was still listed. Now how to get it home…
That monster is heavy. 179lbs to be exact.
The Reece 101 is a keyhole Chainstitch buttonhole machine. All it does is make BEAUTIFUL eyelet shaped buttonholes. No one has been able to replicate the precision it puts out. It’s the holy grail of workwear and even fit for fine suiting. And it’s MINE!!
SO! It’s the original Chainstitch keyhole button hole machine. Suitable for both light and the heaviest of garments. It also lays down what is called a “gimp” which separates it from the pack. It’s from the 40s I believe and still the holy grail of workwear manufacturing.
That should never be something that relies on you. To me that sounds like a partial taking of responsibility for someone else’s corrupt actions. That’s not something you should carry.
I take issue with people on the periphery, never the victim, aware of behaviors, not saying/doing anything.
Oh my God I own a Reece 101!!!
