Remembering the lives lost at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999 Colorado was shaken and heartbroken by the Columbine High School shooting. We remember the lives lost on April 20, 1999.

Growing up in Douglas County, I remember well the shock & devastation our community felt 27 years ago today, when 13 Coloradans were murdered at Columbine High School.

Today, we remember and honor the innocent lives lost, and hold their families in our hearts — always.

This man is the son and namesake of Rodney Mims Cook, Sr., who was a rare racial liberal in 1960s Atlanta. If you've read WHITE FLIGHT, he was one of the leading voices against the Peyton Wall and one of the few legislators to back seating Julian Bond.

Now his son is building a monument to a racist

9. We should show far more grace towards those who have subjected themselves to public life. The eradication of any space for forgiveness—a jettisoning of any tolerance for the complexities and contradictions of the human psyche—may leave us with a cast of characters at the helm we will grow to regret.

18. The ruthless exposure of the private lives of public figures drives far too much talent away from government service. The public arena—and the shallow and petty assaults against those who dare to do something other than enrich themselves—has become so unforgiving that the republic is left with a significant roster of ineffectual, empty vessels whose ambition one would forgive if there were any genuine belief structure lurking within.

19. The caution in public life that we unwittingly encourage is corrosive. Those who say nothing wrong often say nothing much at all.

Points 9, 18 and 19 go after accountability directly. Scrutiny of public figures gets reframed as a kind of cultural sickness driving talent away from public life. The problem becomes the people doing the scrutinising, not the people being scrutinised.

Colorado bike shop featured in Wired.

E-bikes are great, be sure that what you’re buying can be safely serviced, that you’re getting the right “class” of ebike for your situation/laws, and isn’t an unregulated e-moto.

Yesterday I was biking in short sleeves and 70 degree weather. Today I had to cover my lilacs and other plants in an attempt to save them from (much needed) snow.

Will it work? Unsure. The coverings are already weighted down by unusually wet snow.
