Poor air quality this morning, post-bonfire night, yes (not necessarily specific to W Yorks though)

Important thread here on the possibility of scrapping ECO. I would add that when ECO was cut in 2013, 10,000 people lost their jobs. That's more than 3 times as many than Scunthorpe steel works and a whopping 20 times more than Grangemouth oil refinery

Happy lungs-filled-with-metal-and-carbon day to all who celebrate 😞 (To be fair this is not the worst one I've seen, largely because it's windy and maybe because🎆on a weekday so we'll see another spike at the weekend)
Maybe this will bring some attention to #ExtremeHeat
Literal nightmares 😱😱😱

If you still want to have a sleepless night now that temperatures have cooled in the UK, just follow @extremetemps.bsky.social for an abundance of nightmare material about extreme heat across the globe 😱
"Otto said that too many media reports about heatwaves include photographs of children eating ice cream and happy people playing on the beach. “That’s a massive problem”, she said, although she added that more articles were now referring to the role of climate change in driving heatwaves."
Well the wonders of AI never cease 🤔...seems it can make a podcast of a paper I've written, without me lifting a finger. wtf4cities.com/2025/06/24/3...
With London increasing it's demand for cooling faster than anywhere else globally, we need more urgent conversations about passive or low-carbon cooling options, so that we don't fall into a reinforcing feedback loop of active #cooling and #climate impacts

.@stephencollins.bsky.social nailing British attitude to cooling in this #heatwave by getting out the old fans! 🤦♀️
New idea to explore re shared ground loops 😆
A new one for my upcoming lecture on Heating and Cooling anyway.

Could this be the news that gets people on board with climate change impacts? #ExtremeHeat #NoBikinis
🌡️🔥Climate change isn't a distant threat—it's a public health crisis now. Our study shows heat-related deaths in many cities could surpass annual COVID-19 deaths in just 5–10 years at 3°C warming. Urgent action is needed!

"Professor Sebastian Pfautsch, an expert in urban planning at the University of Western Sydney who has been gathering data on the growing dangers of heat in our sprawling city, took a reading off the surface of a piece of gym equipment. It was 98 degrees – easily enough to burn a child’s hand"
#ClimateCrisis crisis deepens with 2024 ‘virtually certain’ to be hottest year on record, says @CopernicusECMWF
- It will also be the first to have an average temperature of more than 1.5C above preindustrial levels
