It was brilliant to chat with you again Natalie! For those interested in the history of sexuality take a listen to the latest episode of Talking Tudors!
Thank you Sylvia - your article looks fascinating too!
My first peer reviewed article is out now with @royalstudies.bsky.social! Based on my 2019 undergraduate dissertation, the article explores Anne Boleyn’s legacy in Elizabethan England. Congratulations to the Royal Studies Journal on its 10th anniversary issue! 🥳

Theo Van Den Boogaard 1985 comics image of a man staring at another man thinking “what a beauty” who in turn is looking at a woman thinking “what a beauty” who in turn is looking at another woman thinking “what a beauty” who in turn is looking at the first guy thinking the same thing.
Took me forever to find this 1985 Theo Van Den Boogaard image I remembered seeing in a queer comics doc a few years back and which randomly popped into my head today.
It’s so fabulous. May need to print & frame it.
Another gay insult from the 17th/18th century to add to my vastly growing collection - “sodomitish impe” - I’ve been called worse 😂
I love looking through manuscripts where the scribe clearly had a lot of fun writing it! 😍
Me neither - I had better get started and write a pitch!
Unfortunately not - as you point out the earliest reference I think I have seen is the one by Ames - I must admit that due it being so ingrained in the secondary literature I assumed that the motto was Anne’s - fascinating if it isn’t and how it came to be associated with her
That’s great - can’t wait to see what the article is about!
That would be brilliant! As far as I know James, William and Mary have never been the subject of a series before - the drama would be immense! It’s well overdue.
Ooo how exciting, I must have a read! I have an article coming out soon with the Royal Studies Journal about Anne’s memory in Elizabeth’s reign - the symbolism of the phoenix and how it connects them is fascinating!
Thank you so much! I would love to bring William and this story into the popular narrative - we’ve had ‘The Favourite’, ‘Mary and George’, and more Tudor dramas than I can count - it’s about time William and Mary have their debut on our TV screens!
So glad that you enjoyed it!
My chat with the fabulous @sixteenthcgirl.bsky.social has just been released on Not Just the Tudors - it was so much fun to talk about all things William III, satire and scandal! open.spotify.com/episode/1lpj...
