GOOD FILM ALERT! (10/1/2026)
GOOD FILM ALERT! (5/1/2026)
And that was Christmas 2025... Let's do this again next year - we'll be back on September 16th 2026. Have a very Happy New Year!
7) [--] 8 49 Argos
8) [--] 8 65 TK Maxx
9) [RE] 7 31 Waitrose
10) [-1] 7 35 Aldi
11) [-1] 7 42 Very
12) [-1] 7 45 McDonalds
Not very much movement, showing why we keep the ten-year window!
So, onto 2026. Here's hoping we get out of this cycle of sequels and safety!
(9/9)
And how about the all-time chart? If we go back to 2005, rather than just considering the past ten years, then we get this:
1) [--] 12 53 Boots
2) [--] 12 56 M&S
3) [--] 11 60 Sainsburys
4) [--] 10 53 John Lewis
5) [--] 8 26 Tesco
6) [--] 8 39 Asda
(8/)
So what's bubbling under? Brands to watch out for next year which could break into the league include Pandora, John Lewis, Coca-Cola, Disney, Apple, LEGO, Dior, TK Maxx, Save The Children and Vodafone. Pandora, Apple and Dior are certainly on the ascendancy.
(7/)
M&S dropping down to 7th was a shock, but scattergun ad campaigns never score highly with us. But... it's very tightly packed mid-table, so there's ample chance of them bouncing back next year. Hopefully the big brands will get out of their ultra-safe mindsets next year.
(6/)
Boots going off the boil is sad to see, but as we know, they'll bounce back again someday. Barbour should probably move on from the Aardman franchise as they're rather overfamiliar now - it'll be interesting to see what franchise they tackle next.
(5/)
...and they showed that the latest advertising restrictions on rich food won't affect the quality of the ads with a bit of imagination. Wonderful to see Waitrose on the up with a series of classy classic ads, whilst actively taking risks with the form.
(4/)
Tesco deserve the top spot because they have the right form, and really, if their new ad was less darker (difficult when you're mocking the downsides of Christmas) then they would have earned the top spot outright with a 12 Ads placement. But there's always next year...
(3/)
7) [-3] 5 32 M&S
8) [-2] 4 15 Amazon
9) [-2] 4 17 Sainsburys
10) [-2] 4 18 McDonalds
11) [RE] 4 31 Morrisons
12) [-1] 3 14 Lidl
(2/)
So, here's the latest King Of Christmas league table:
1) [+1] 6 17 Tesco
2) [-1] 6 25 Aldi
3) [+6] 5 21 Barbour
4) [+6] 5 22 Waitrose
5) [-2] 5 23 Asda
6) [-1] 5 27 Boots
(1/9)
Yeah the associated merch is gone downhill a bit too.... not everyone wants a plushie.
KingOfXmas2025 #1: Up 1, 6 Appearances, 17 points, Tesco
Carried by their momentum, Tesco reaches the top spot even though their latest ad is a bit of a misfire. It's a clever bit of observational comedy, but it's too dark and triggering to be fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=711Cq8_E0oI
