(public-facing) Politicking is often the art of prettily obscuring tradeoffs, especially for overrepâd constituencies, but over time both the public & electeds seem to stop believing that they exist. We need to be more honest about being in âpick two of threeâ situations.

To provide stark visual support: this video reviews public spend vs tax receipts for a town; even old-timey walkable stomps the setback single family housing.

âIt's not my duty as Mayor to make sure you have a parking spot. For me it's the same as if you bought a cow, or a refrigerator, and then asked me where you're going to put them.â â Mayor of Pontevedra, Spain (re-elected 6 times)

He refused to build or facilitate a state that would not itself be brutal, violent, and reactionary - until it was too late. Do not organize an imperial apparatus reliant on your individual genius (/extremely unhealthy interactions with Wilhelm I) if you want it to last.
ICYMI: I introduced a package of legislation to reform American democracy by increasing the size of the United States Senate and House of Representatives, as well as restoring the Supreme Courtâs jurisdiction to better align with Article III of the US Constitution. Read more:
Does this also mean that shitbird would be out of carrier-naming contention until the battleship (or even the class) was out of service?
This isnât a cameras vs design choice point. The legislation at issue requires judges mandate ignition interlock devices be installed on any first-time DUI offenderâs vehicle. So the people are already 1) caught 2) in violation. Chicanes and chokes are good, but donât eliminate this problem.

This is the sort of thing where Dems on higher education committees should be saying things like they view this as illegal, and expect they will withdraw funds from schools who go along with Trump when they regain power.
First Iâd heard of the book. @gingerhaze.bsky.social is great. Thanks for sharing!
My immodest reform proposal: offer a reasonable long-term solution in exchange for not blowing it up.
Noting that between income rules & age, the initial two seats could net swing 4 votes toward democracy.

This is a good piece with a whopper worthy of correction: Franken was pressured to resign because 8 women accused him of harassment, not âcancelledâ for âmaking jokesâ (the gross picture while a woman was asleep?). Tina Brown & Doug Jones, remember?

on the electoral side of things, this is why you need a loud opposition party saying they reject this and will not stand for it. that this country should be safe for people from korea as new immigrants but also for longstanding korean americans.
It isnât even âcauseâ! Itâs âallowâ - Republicans have the majority in both chambers and ought to be able to govern. Voters should get to see that. Then Democrats should exact a hefty price.
Pass 2 by congressional majority. Offer 1 as a compromise to diffuse adding 2 seats every six months. This is a recommendation for how to use a bare majoritarian approach to achieve lasting reform. One that has institutional and political advantages to lots of jurisdiction stripping.
*these could just fall under a reassertion of congressional supremacy or go into the statute whether at 2 or independently
I suggest 1) offer a reasonable constitutional Amend. on SCOTUS reform: income restrictions*, shadow docket*, terms & seat # allocated by presidency; then immediately 2) pass a law that +2 seats every six months, unless the Amend is ratified, w/ jurisdiction stripped. 3) watch 1 fly to ratification
Except death penalty appeals (unless these arenât statutorily eliminated AND the existing oneâs are commuted, as ought to happen, though I might include the exception anyway for unforeseen situations)

...by convincing our #Montreal borough to set up a pilot-project for a rue-ĂŠcole (school street). 6 movable concrete barriers, which still allow ambulances to pass. About 50 metres closed to carsâbut open to people.
The improvement was immediate, and dramatic.

For a host of reasons, it's outrageous that Republicans are on the warpath against renewables. It's outright sabotage of the American economy in favor of our enemies, global warming, and a handful of exceptionally dim investors with their money tied up in more-expensive-per-kW fossil fuel energy.
