A petunia hatches a nasty plan.
I felt sick watching this. They did not crack Zelenskyy, though
Why does trump love putin so much? Why don’t our congressional reps speak out and show they have some f’ing guts and aren’t afraid to speak the truth about what is happening to destroy this country? Are my grandchildren going to have to go to war against Europe? And will i sleep at all tonight?
They can forbid us to use the term “climate change,” but they can’t shut down reality. And there are infinite words we can use to express it.
Let’s start calling it limatecay angechay.
Okay, we need to come up with another term. Like: limatecay angechay.
Horrible horrible.
1. Climate change 2. Greenhouse gas emissions 3. Emissions 4. Racial equity 5. Gender identity 6. Diversity, equity and inclusion 7. Environmental justice 8. Justice40 initiative
Just received an email saying that it's not advisable to include the following words in future applications for research funding to the US DOT. Here we are.
Thanks for these tips. I’ve started the process of following them.
During a sleepless night, I started to count how many days trump will be in office. Then realized:
a: he might not leave in four years
b: something so terrible could happen that counting days becomes irrelevant
Oh god, and now we have to listen to that smarmy, sanctimonious, lying voice every f’ing day
On this day, January 20, 2025, another day that will live in infamy… I plan on playing music all day. At this moment listening to Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos.
Why do weather forecasts only talk about the effect of wind when it makes the temperature seem worse? They give the winter “wind chill”… but why not the spring “breeze warmth”? As in “It’s 36 o today but the breeze warmth makes it feel like 45.”
My New Year’s resolution is to live in corrupt, morally bankrupt, fascist times. So, already nailed that.
Being picky about who I follow back.
In the middle of the night a rabbit comes to sit by the bird feeder in my back yard. When I get up to pee, I go and look at him—still and dark in the snow, now glittering in the moonlight, a patient messenger from a place of yearning. Sometimes I leave lettuce for him.
I wonder how Bluesky might change in tone as more Facebook users desert. FB is definitely friendlier and more personal than Twitter or Bluesky, much less inclined to wit. Wonder how *I* will respond!
I’m a longtime Facebook user. Now that Zuckerberg is donating $1 million to Trump’s inauguration and ending FB’s fact-checking department, I’m done. Keep thinking about that WWII parable about “they came for the Jews and I did nothing…” Time to start paying attention to what “they” are coming for.
Not content with speaking solely to the assembled congregants, God now has bigger plans: live streaming!
At midnight I step down as exec director of Radical Joy for Hard Times, the organization I founded in 2009 to find and make beauty in broken places. I will devote myself fully to writing. Also some teaching & speaking about ways to honor the Earth. Feeling awed, scared, proud, moved & crazy-excited!

A practice I love: going out to the shed and gathering an armload of logs for my woodburning stove. I especially love it when I can walk through the snow.
I love this
Have you noticed the way people so often respond to interview questions these days? (Particularly thinking of NPR, to which i am a regular if often exasperated listener.) The interviewer asks a question, & the interviewee responds, “Yeah, so….” What’s this about? Fear of seeming too decisive?
I love the wildness of wind blowing as I’m reading in bed before sleep. And feeling a little fear that that wild wind will snap off a branch of the enormous willow tree in my yard and smash the house. If that happens, those who know me will say, “For her not a bad way to die.”
Yes. Me too
I finished The NY Times’s annual Super Mega crossword puzzle
A bad choice of name for whatever this is
