I love thinking about @prewarcinema.bsky.social's excellent editing work on Pavements as "a stitched-together mixtape of all the different interpretations of the band."

In our slide towards a fascist state, this is what a Missouri legislator said as he rejected the will of 58% of Missourians to raise the minimum wage. “Of course the people voted for it. It’d be like asking your teenager if he wanted a checkbook. You know, they’re going to vote for it every time.”

From director Alex Ross Perry, PAVEMENTS may or may not be entirely true, may or may not be totally sincere, & may or may not be more about the idea of the band—or any band—than a history of ’90s American alt group Pavement.

Tell It Slanted | Stephen Piccarella This was how I would first understand Pavement’s music: dense bursts of esoterica punctuated here and there by mellow springs of warm pop hum, an Oasis of boredom in a desert of horror. Various forms ...

“How does ‘Slanted! Enchanted!’ exemplify the Wagnerian concept of the gesamtkunstwerk?” @spiccarella.bsky.social on Pavement and “Pavements”:

One man's effort to bring 'Sinners' to residents of the town where it takes place The movie Sinners takes place in Clarksdale, Miss., but its residents can't watch it without leaving town. Now the movie is coming to them.

One thing I found out about Sinners is that the people who live where it's set can't watch it because there's no movie theater around! Credit to everyone making this effort to bring it to them, but it sucks that this is a problem to begin with www.wgbh.org/news/2025-05...

“It’s a Three-Sided Movie”: Alex Ross Perry and Robert Greene on Pavements, Lifelong Music Geekery, and Val Kilmer On the basis of the following interview, if you’re going to speak to a director, perhaps ask for the lead editor to join them. Fitting for a film largely about the collective interplay of a great rock...

"Pavements is absolutely too long. The movie is too long, yet it has to be as long as it is."

we've not checked with Film Forum yet but Matador is issuing an executive order (ahem) that the Movie Mate is banned from screenings of "Pavements". If you want a fake friend, get a human edition, there's plenty of them.

‘Pavements’: A Sly Ode to the Last Band You’d Give the Biopic Treatment (Gift Article) Part spoof and part serious, the film is about mythmaking as much as it is about music. The result is delightfully destabilizing.

Honestly I don’t know the first thing about Pavement, the band, but the semi-documentary PAVEMENTS is at least as much about the goofy ways we try to memorialize rockers in docs and fiction alike and it’s terrific:

Pavements movie review & film summary (2025) | Roger Ebert “Pavements” exemplifies all the group represented to its loyal listeners, and why, as the film wants to call them, they are “the world's most important and influential band.”

I really adore Alex Ross Perry's PAVEMENTS.

A Joyfully Chaotic Tribute to Pavement in “Pavements” The band Pavement, big in the nineties and bigger in memory, returns to help celebrate themselves wryly in Alex Ross Perry’s loving, metafictional rock-bio-pic parody.
