"The cost of doing business"- CDC Deputy Director on the likelihood that the US will lose our measles elimination status.
Unfortunately, the CDC is no longer interested in doing public health work and is now interested in the cost of doing business. In case you didn't know, the cost is lives lost.

I'm confused. From PHWINS data we know that the mass majority of people drawn to public health come to the field because of our ties to social justice. Yet, our schools are canceling their social justice and health equity certifications.
Students, come to Pitt! We still have our certificates.
Why? Well they say it's because AAP uses "birthing people" on their website.
In reality it's because AAP is suing the administration over RFK's approach to vaccines.
AAP is putting science over funding and I'm so proud of them.
Remember this administration wants us to have more babies?
So of course they canceled millions in grant funding to American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), impacting programming on SIDS, birth defects, autism, and much more.
I'm reading a student's final on maternal health outcomes in Mississippi, and I really want to put up billboards across the state telling people that they don't have to live like that. Move to a blue state. Get access to health & social services your state is depriving you of so you can live.
We have a 3-tiered public health system with built in redundancy, because if one tier fails (in this case, the federal level), the other two can step in to protect the health of our people. Good job state and local health departments for stepping in to keep people healthy.
The mass firing of public health regulators by this administration.
Trump when Charlie Kirk died- "dark moment" and ordered flags flown half stance
Trump when college kids die during finals week- "Things can happen"
Hope and expect are two different words with two different meanings. I can have hope without expectations.
So proud of the first student from U Pitt's MCH Center of Excellence to be profiled in MCH Leads. Learn more about the interdisciplinary nature of Maternal and Child Health and opportunities you can tap into at U Pitt's MCH CoE.
Send students my way. We're recruiting our second class.

Today's ACIP meeting was hard to watch. Watching facts ignored or twisted, and witnessing protections stripped away from unborn babies.
This will cost the nation greatly.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but- do not look to the CDC for public health advice.
CDC employees consider joining state public health agencies, collaborations, and consortiums.
Don't let RFK ruin your credibility. You worked too hard to have your career linked to his ideology.
The Feds want us concerned about Nigeria attacking Christianity, while the Feds are telling protestors that they can't pray outside of ICE detention centers. blockclubchicago.org/2025/11/07/f....
I normally look forward to the talk I give students about maternal mortality. I teach them the importance of counting correctly, and exactly what to count. I teach them about the Fed's commitment to reducing MM.
Well today I get to tell them about all who have been fired, deemed fraud/waste by HHS.
Thank you for helping people find me on here!
My son gets hand-me-down clothing from Trustee Brian Straw and his wife. The very same elected official that was indicted by the Feds for protesting. He was one of five elected people or candidates to be indicted yesterday. The Feds going after local officials. We must save our democracy
During circle time today, my daughter's class processed seeing a man get detained by ICE outside of their school.
Last week ICE pulled guns outside of my 7 y.o school. Today, it was outside of my 10 y.o's school.
Repubs want us to fear adults in drag around kids, I'm afraid of ICE agents in masks.
Trumps policies will limit the number of foreign-born doctors coming to our country, while also limiting the number of American born people who can afford to go to med school, and limiting the amount of money med schools can make by cutting research dollars and limiting international students. MAHA?
In 2012, my mom retired from being an early childcare teacher finally earning her goal salary, $25k. I remember my college costing $2,000 more a year than her annual salary.
Trump's administration has taken away every single program I used to get out of poverty.

The federal gov wants people to have more babies- but fired the entire Healthy Start team. Their job was to ensure Americans have healthy pregnancies and infants have a healthy start to life. Their work is needed considering we rank 33rd out of 38 among high-income countries for infant mortality
Seems like so long ago when this was the biggest problem in our town. How I long for the days when our neighborhood social media pages were lamenting about leaves.
now that's an idea
Thank you kindly!
This dismantling of PH will lead to death, & we'll lack the data to prove it.
The public never understood what public health did, so they don't understand the loss. The underreporting of who's been fired and what expertise we are losing feeds this lack of knowledge. The lack of knowledge = lack of pushback.
I'm teaching today about our role in ensuring an effective and responsive public health system, and I'm overwhelmed because the system we worked so hard to build no longer exists. It's been decimated by this administration and our citizenry doesn't know what that means.
Convince me that this is what they voted for. Better yet, convince them, no, make them stop.
Make our government stop terrorizing its citizens.
I read the email from my kid's school telling us the school is on lockdown due to guns drawn outside their doors. Knowing that the father of my child's best friend was detained as a result.
When I picked up my kid she told me about the lockdown, eating lunch in class "kinda like COVID times mom"
