A watercolor color image of a dark eyed junco in a huge pair of barrel legged jeans with a studded belt and chain. Text on an orange field reads "Dark Eyed JNCO"

Back online! The 5th National Climate Assessment, which was released by the US Global Change Research Program in 2023 (and taken offline by the Trump administration in early 2025) is back. The assessment is the most recent state of the science report on climate change impacts and risks to the US.
Also get her singing along to the best line in the best Ambition Mission song (“Look at me one more time like that and I will smash your face in!”). Annie from A.M. is also in a new band called Grassface with members of Canadian Rifle! undercomm.bandcamp.com/track/letter...
You should probably get her started on the RVIVR discography. And maybe the Spitboy side of the split with Crudos. rvivr.bandcamp.com/track/paper-...

“How long will I be here?”
“I don’t know your case,” the man said. “Could be days. Could be weeks. But I’m telling you right now – you need to mentally prepare yourself for months.”
From a source: “Just had a co-presenter for a buildings research conference bow out. She’s a dual citizen and the FBI came knocking to ask her about her involvement in coauthoring chunks of the Paris Agreement.
Climate science is being literally (and I mean literally) criminalized.”
As expected, the Trump team is already deleting climate info from government websites. In anticipation, our team at Urban Ocean Lab created a permanent archive of 100+ key resources and published a permanent archive: www.urbanoceanlab.org/resource-hub 👩🏽💻
This week the Trump administration took offline the climate and economic justice mapping tool CEJST.
We, as part of the Public Environmental Data Project, have recreated it.

I just reached out to my senators about the NIH situation. If you need to find out how much impact NIH has in your state in terms of dollars in and their economic impact here's a link: www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...
Turbines have to be permitted through FAA to determine they don’t pose hazards to air navigation. USGS maintains a good data viewer here. View it while you still can. energy.usgs.gov/uswtdb/
Reminds me of this post by @joshtpm.bsky.social after the election. After reading his post I registered republicanscorecard.com with the same idea. Haven’t gotten around to building it yet but happy to contribute the domain name if someone beats me to it!

When my house and community burned - where was the satellite information? A very raw blog post I am putting up so folks in the satellite, geospatial and tech fields can listen firsthand why I think we are failing the situations that need us the most.

The science (which I didn’t do!) used electronic circuit theory (tool called Circuitscape) to model species movement like electrical flow. The visualization uses 3 instances of the popular windy.js library to display the 3 taxonomic groups on top of each other.
Does this count? I mapped modeled climate change-induced species range shifts, but ended up converting the data into wind vector format to make use of existing JS libraries. www.maps.tnc.org/migrations-i...
Last time, they didn’t even find out NCA4 was happening until too late to do anything more than delay its release + publicly contradict its conclusions.
As one of the only non-fed authors on Vol 1, I ran a Twitter thread tracking + rebutting these claims.
Not surprised by this at all ⬇️
“In 2023 Elsevier began using AI during production without informing the board, resulting in many style and formatting errors, as well as reversing versions of papers that had already been accepted and formatted by the editors. “This was highly embarrassing for the journal"”
Hey Nate! I used to know you from another life (VHS punk when you were at VU) and stumbled upon you here! Anyway, if you like Fast Blood you’ll probably like Caves, if you don’t already! They’re like a UK RVIVR. caves.bandcamp.com/album/better...
I was a serial lurker on Twitter since 2008 and I guess I’ll be a serial on Bluesky too! About four times/year I post about something related to conservation, data viz, or hardcore punk from the 80s and 90s. Happy that Bluesky feels friendly and nazi free!
