I wrote and posted this to Instagram a couple of days ago and it became my most-read poem ever. I’m honored I get to feel big feelings alongside you all. I’m posting it here too and want to use this space more consistently. Hello friends ❤️

A stylized logo of the letters NC in black against a white background. It's from the epic comic "Bitch Planet" by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine de Landro, where bad women and trans people were labelled "non-compliant" with their assigned gender.

I saw a reference yesterday to trans people becoming "non-compliant" wrt to mismatch between IDs and paperwork, and my tattoo fucking ITCHED.

An engineer, a novelist, and a lawyer walk into the bar.
Only the lawyer passes but that’s irrelevant because they’re all living fully actualized lives as their true selves.

This “joke” popped into my head as I was falling asleep the other night.

Nonbinary person here, the "tri-bi" label serves too much cunt therefore the math checks out

Being nonbinary is intrinsically about chaos, cunt, or both, and it's usually both.

Our culture has such a reliance on art, mixed with so much disdain for artists' lives. Someone throws soup at a painting in a gallery or whatever and everyone acts like it's a literal murder, but that level of sympathy is for the object, almost never for the living conditions of artists.

It’s ok to have down periods when you aren’t creating. It’s not about constant production. It’s good to sit and marinate.

There are a lot of half-formed notions of Renee Good circulating right now. This poem is the most accurate artifact of her we have access to; a piece of her soul that remains in the world. Read her words and become her for a moment; let her live in you. So long as men can breathe & eyes can see.

The woman killed by ICE today was a poet. She won the 2020 Academy of American Poets, University & College Poetry Prize at Old Dominion University.

(And this is Renee from confirmed socials- a photo of a different woman with red lipstick is going around, but that was a classmate.)

I've got a zine coming about the failed attempts to suppress David Walker's Appeal in the 19th century. The current fascists won't succeed in suppressing information that wants to be shared. It is even harder for them to do than their predecessors. #Onwards

Tired
I am so tired of waiting,
Aren't you,
For the world to become good And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two - And see what worms are eating
At the rind.
Langston Hughes

For people that feel helpless, this period is so tough but there's ways to help for anyone. Go out there support Venezuelan ppl and artists living in it as they prepare for unpredictable times

Here is a starter pack of artists with commissions or donations open as well:

This response is the exact type of response a student *should* receive and that the instructor has been removed is both an attack on academic integrity as well as a clear and targeted attack on a trans instructor. Despicable on the part of the student, the university, and of course TPUSA.
