Also kind of perfect that I read Red Rising by Pierce Brown right after this book. A space sci-fi that is about a caste system and the revolution to over turn it? Thematic through line indeed.
Red Rising was great, I really enjoyed it. I wonder if India has SFF books that tackle caste?
A must read for all Indians, or at least any who want to genuinely, and justly tackles the problems of the day.
Because how can we make any meaningful change while failing the vast majority of the people, while turning a blind eye to the cruel system of oppression we have instilled and propagated?
Completed Waiting for Visa by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (if you don't know who he is, know that he is revered as the Father of the Indian Constitution)
This book is a series of stories from his life as he experiences the brutal casteism that still envelopes India. I think its a must read

the tricky thing about making space for yourself/honoring your needs is first accepting that you deserve it and that it is okay to do so.
I think not feeling that first part is great though. It’s a place I’d like to be in. I think? But yes, calling out my indianness so that people know my context feels mandatory and tiring.
I want to be a writer. Not an Indian writer. And then again maybe I should claim the latter more earnestly ?
And locally it feels important to critique your heritage and history. Which feels like a mammoth task beyond one’s skill set
I think the answer I land up at is easy in theory, “something I would want to read/play/watch”. But I think it’s harder in the context of being heard. Like internationally it’s better to lean into your cultural aesthetic to stand out. Which feels icky when insincere.
