Just had a quick skim through. Great to see PM0.1 included. I couldn’t see anything on SOA specifically, but I guess that would largely be captured within the PM2.5 and ultrafine particle limits anyway. Not sure it’s worth regulating particle toxicity separately given how low the limits already are.

NEW ANALYSIS: UK emissions fell 2.4% in 2025 as coal fell to a 400-year low. Incredibly, we used less coal last year than than in 1600, when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne and Shakespeare was writing Hamlet.

I've largely stopped posting #HydrogenSoufflé because it seems distasteful to dance on the graves of so many dreams. But... Aberdeen is flogging its hydrogen bus fleet for scrap.

Hannah Spencer: the Green MP speaking to everyday people’s frustrations Winner of Gorton and Denton byelection was driven into politics by growing gap between super-rich and the ‘rest of us’

The small, brave band of MPs who represent the trampled, not the tramplers, has a very welcome new member.

We should all ask ourselves why, in a supposed democracy, such representatives are so rare.

My word, that articulated lorry tractor unit, or 'semi' with a central driver position looks rather familiar, except it's a bit cheaper and goes a bit further.

How is Reform’s charmless candidate still a contender in Gorton and Denton? Ask Labour | George Monbiot This byelection should have been a stroll for Keir Starmer’s party. Instead, all hope of defeating Matt Goodwin now seems to lie with the Greens, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

If Labour followed its own logic, it would now step aside and let the Greens walk home in this crucial by-election. It is hard to imagine how Starmer and co could have made a bigger fist of this - and of everything.
My column.

Are we nearing peak emissions?
Are we nearing peak emissions? YouTube video by Simon Clark

Some potential good news. It looks like global carbon and climate emissions may have peaked this year. That means the rate of increased warming is no longer accelerating as quickly and we are no longer climbing the steepest part of the curve. youtube.com/shorts/tvw-Y... #Climate #NetZero #EV

Cop28 is a farce rigged to fail, but there are other ways we can try to save the planet | George Monbiot Inaction and self-interest are built into climate summits. Instead, we need a voting system that can’t be subverted by fossil fuel producers, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Two years ago, I wrote this about how the COP climate summits are designed to fail, and how they could be designed to succeed. Sadly, nothing has changed.

I never suggested giving the fossil industry the benefit of the doubt. Parts of the fossil industry and its fellow-travellers have behaved despicably for many decades. That does not mean that demonizing the whole industry and pretending you can shut it down overnight is a smart climate strategy.

You have stated that we need to give the fossil fuel industry the benefit of doubt but surely the astroturfing uncovered by Brown university and described in the short video by Simon Clark below should be condemned?

Yes, emphasising air pollution reduction as a co-benefit of climate solutions would be a good and pragmatic approach. As is emphasising that many of them, especially energy efficiency, save you money.
