In the US, it’s National Library Workers’ Day, and I would be remiss to let it pass without reminding you that the “library workers are magic” narrative leads bad places. Love, respect, and cherish them, but also pay them, staff libraries appropriately, and let them draw boundaries.

Books, music, & tea. A fine combination for #NationalTeaDay from Pieter van Roestraten, born on this day in 1630.

Don't Ban Books! WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU‽
Naming my security company after the giant evil eye that, crucially, was too distracted to see the actual threat sneaking in
It’s National Library Week, so support your fucking libraries people. Use them, fight for their funding, fight for your librarians. Don’t let your most reliable third space go to waste.
“Across the country, book banning efforts have been noticeably concentrated on stories that center women’s experiences …… These stories often discuss systematic injustice, patriarchal norms, the stripping of bodily autonomy, and domestic violence.”

“You gotta learn AI or get left behind!” is a bit galling given that the entire purpose of AI seems to be to steal our work and fuck our brains and shit up the planet, which is to say, its GOAL is to leave us all behind. That, in order to make its owners rich.
A “Grandiloquent Word of the Day” meme featuring the word “Ranarian” with its pronunciation and definition, “of, relating to, or resembling frogs; frog-like.” Below, an ornate example sentence describes a man with a regrettably frog-like face better suited to a bog than polite society. On the right, a detailed black-and-white illustration from Alice in Wonderland shows the Frog Footman at a doorway speaking with a small crowned girl labeled “Queen Alice.”
Ranarian [ruh-NAIR-ee-un]
(adj.)
- Of, relating to, or resembling frogs; frog-like.
Used in a sentence:
“Mr. Thistlewick, possessed of a most regrettably ranarian visage, suggested a creature far better suited to a dank and ancient bog than to the refinements of polite society.”

Yet one thing more
Voters don't want board members who fixate on children's genitals and so-called "inappropriate" books in schools. Three conservative board members in Francis Howell (MO), a center of book banning, were ousted last night.

“There’s a reason professional associations for librarians have been under attack & bills that would criminalize librarians have skyrocketed during this rise in censorship–librarians are obligated to uphold the 1st Amendment rights of all, rather than the interests of the current political regime.”
“Books and literature will never completely go away. What has been disappearing, and what will continue to disappear, are choices, voices, and perspectives that do not align with the regime at hand and white supremacy.”
You know something has gone terribly wrong when 94% of teachers have to dip into their own pockets to buy school supplies while the average Wall Street employee got a bonus of $246,900 in 2025. Hello?
I highly recommend that everyone follow artists. If you do, your feed is filled with art every day. Real, original art. It's bonkers that you can even have this. Amazing. Undeniably cool.
And then support those artists, when you can, because that helps the delight continue.
