I have just discovered that sub-folders are a thing in #Zotero. Why had I not figured this out before? My literature is now much better organised, as I had loads of duplicates. I feel like I have just levelled up in #phdlife #phdsky #academicsky

Artificial intelligence cannot match the human capacity to type a sentence, stare at the sentence, delete the sentence, make a sandwich, and retype the same sentence

Great, thank you. I've just ordered a copy of Finishing Your Thesis in Fifteen Minutes a Day. It will likely be a helpful read in this next phase. My problem is that I assume I will remember where to pick up, and invariably, I do not remember. I am going to try writing precise instructions in future

I have just gone into my third year. I have funding for three years and a half years. I am very grateful that half of my fourth year is funded, as this means I can focus on the write-up just as much as the rest of my project.

That’s incredible! For all of the faults of social media (and there are many), these stories of networks and horizons expanded do show the benefits. How far through your PhD are you?

I, too, am a big Pomodoro fan. Indeed, I didn't intend to undertake a PhD; I just came up for air in a 10-minute Pomodoro break, checked the other site, spotted a tweet, and found a PhD proposal that appeared to have been written for me. The rest is history!

This is inspired! Thank you. I had never thought to stop mid-sentence, but this is amazing. You have also reminded me that sometimes I write a brief note reminding me on where I stopped, and options for picking up again.

Breaks are essential; we know that. Sometimes, I get so engrossed in what I am doing I have to force myself to stop. But what I have never understood is why when I try to resume my work after a break, it is such a monumental effort #phdlife #phdsky #academicsky

How the British Library cyberattack disrupted research Academics who rely on the British Library’s unmatched collection are still feeling the impact of a devastating cyberattack a year ago. Jack Grove hears from those affected and considers how another ca...

Most people outside of research are still unaware of how much the cyberattack on @britishlibrary.bsky.social is still affecting the research community one year on. Good piece covering that + need to invest in libraries

But a meaningful problem to solve, something I am invested in... Then I will persist and invest the time and effort required. I am so grateful that I care about my PhD and about how doctoral researcher wellbeing can be enhanced through coaching #coachingpsychology #phdlife #phdsky #academicsky

Understanding the application of abstract concepts has often challenged me. I got into real trouble at school for saying I would prefer to call the RSPCA than work out the locus a goat could walk around a fence it was tethered to. Why was the goat tethered to a fence in the first place?

Today is mostly about revising multiple regression. I understand the theory: create models with one dependent variable & >one independent variable, but until I do one with something that's meaningful to me, it never quite sticks in the same way as when I have hypothesised and collected the data

Word of this morning is ‘procaffeinate’: to put everything on hold until you’ve had sufficient amounts of coffee.

Welcome! I looked for you a couple of days ago on here and you were not here ☹️ And now you are. Hurray! I cannot really fill you in on what has been going on here, but I do hope you settle in well and stay long-term

That is a beautiful room, was it a chapel at some point?

I was given very similar advice and it resonated. Having come from working in teams where progress and milestones were acknowledged and celebrated, it is much harder to notice my day-to-day progress on an individual project

I don’t resonate with the cutesy romantic PhD content. I cannot post photos of a beautifully crafted tidy desk. Nor am I miserable and just wanting my PhD to be over (yay!). I think there is a space for just posting the day to day grind, and endless cups of tea #phdlife #academicchatter
