What’s to-day, my fine fellow?

Like Hitler's brown shirts, ICE is hiring mostly losers.

Which makes them so much more dangerous, because this is their only way to power.

It's also worth being clear about who's doing the arguing. Palantir sells operational software to defence, intelligence, immigration & police agencies. These 22 points aren't philosophy floating in space, they're the public ideology of a company whose revenue depends on the politics it's advocating.

21. Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive. All cultures are now equal. Criticism and value judgments are forbidden. Yet this new dogma glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures . . . have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful.

Point 21 is the giveaway, some cultures produce "wonders," others are "regressive and harmful." Once you accept that hierarchy, you've quietly been given permission to apply different standards of verification to different actors. The form of verification stays, but the democratic function doesn't.

Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.

We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

A tweet from Representative Thomas Massie that reads:

I just viewed 2 Top Secret FISA docs.
1) FISA Court opinion that raises serious concerns about FBI implementation of FISA 702.
2) letter by Senator Wyden describing a secret government interpretation of FISA law.
The Constitution requires I vote No on FISA 702 reauthorization.

I sent a classified letter to House and Senate colleagues about a secret interpretation of surveillance law that every American should be concerned about.

Representative Massie is right. The Constitution requires EVERY member to vote against a clean reauthorization.

Here's the article which includes the actual interview in question. Yes, he absolutely said this and yes, it's in context.

Personally don't recommend these. As the article notes, these properties are typically achieved through PFAS, which can shed carcinogens in your home (which you then inhale) or come out in the wash (polluting waterways for decades). Will try to do a thread on how to treat stains in the wash.

Kavanaugh doesn’t have to apologize for being a piece of shit but Sotomayor has to apologize for calling him out.

It's notable that this new report from Tel Aviv University finding that more Diaspora Jews were killed in 2025 than in any year since 1994, also finds that the Israeli government's cynical manipulation of the term "antisemitism" made Diaspora Jews less safe.

YOU CAN WATCH PEOPLE ALIGN THEMSELVES WHEN TROUBLE IS IN THE AIR. SOME PREFER TO BE CLOSE TO THOSE AT THE TOP AND OTHERS WANT TO BE CLOSE TO THOSE AT THE BOTTOM. IT'S A QUESTION OF WHO FRIGHTENS THEM MORE AND WHOM THEY WANT TO BE LIKE.

U for You! Joyce's Ulysses for New Readers (and Re-Readers) (Spring 2026) (Online) - Irish Arts Center Thu, Apr 16 - Wed, Jun 10, 2026

If you're interested in taking an online (Zoom) class about James Joyce's Ulysses, there's one being offered soon by the Irish Arts Center in NYC. It's being taught by Jonathan Goldman, who happens to be president of the James Joyce Society in NYC. I took a previous class of his and he's great.

It's been nearly five hours since the president of the United States posted a graphic snuff video of a man beating a woman to death with a hammer and there's no mention of it on the New York Times, Washington Post or CNN websites.

This is not an exaggeration. The president’s posts are again literally indistinguishable from people who fetishize snuff films of gruesome death and torture.

This image is a painting titled "The Banjo Player," created in 1856 by the American artist William Sidney Mount. The painting features a portrait of an African American musician playing a banjo, a departure from the stereotypical depictions common in minstrel shows of the era.

Blast from the past in #booksky : Got to recommend Guy Debord’s Society of the Spectacle to someone today. Exact words were “How the f* did he KNOW? In 1973??”

Other situationist writers are available, including more contemporary ones

It's a hell of a time to be writing a paper framed by Guy Debord, I will tell you that for nothing.

Things that help calm the nervous system, quickly:

- Box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4, repeat)
- Immerse your face in cold water (activates mammalian dive reflex)
- Humming (stimulates vagus nerve)
- Exercise (anything helps, outside even better)
- Impeachment and removal

I have a father and mother in law in Iran. I have a sister in law. A niece. She's 14. She likes silly pink headbands and purses and dresses, just like kids her age all over the world. There are 93 million people like her in Iran. People who do all the normal mundane life things as the rest of us.
