"To put it bluntly, an X post today receives less than 3% of the views a single tweet delivered seven years ago."
If you think it is necessary to be on Twitter to communicate your fact-based worldview, the reality is that worldview is being smothered.
Also would be very cool if we can have 2 b1g teams in the championship

Just a reminder that 1yr ago today many dedicated NIH employees received RIF notices and started the process where many others were told they must leave their positions/ICs after years of service.
The pain felt across the scientific community in the last year is also felt by those serving it.

An inappropriate relationship at Ohio State?
*shakes head*
No, it's THE inappropriate relationship
Social media created this nonsense idea that not exposing yourself to hatred is isolationist. Choosing to not spend your free time with bigots isn’t living in a bubble. I don’t need to know what’s going on at X. I won’t be smarter or more knowledgeable or empathic by being there. Neither will you.
Lots of good quotes here, and I think if anything good comes out of this awfulness it will perhaps be academics rethinking our reflexive obeisance to prestige and wealth.

Martinez took five bullets from a CBP agent, and DHS went into overdrive claiming she was an armed threat to the agents who were merely defending themselves. Sound familiar?
"Morale is plummeting among ICE agents over long hours, quotas and public hatred: reports"
Verge headline: It doesn't matter if Alex Pretty had a gun by Sarah Jeong Photo by Steven Garcia depicts several masked law enforcement agents soaked in red light at night
"Why is it so normal for law enforcement — those who are supposed to be keepers of law and order — to kill Americans? And why is the only question at the end of the day how much their victims deserved to die?"

CNN: DHS officials have come to FEMA staff and told them to limit the use of the word ice…they are worried that by posting something like, watch out for the ice, that it's going to become a meme….
I think the lesson for the Trump administration is they did not have to change the law, or win a court case, to get universities to do what they wanted.

New, from me: Defenders of police abuses will sometimes talk about “bad apples” spoiling the barrel.
This is the wrong metaphor for ICE and CBP. The barrel itself is rotten. 🧵

At the same time, ICE is telling its employees and prosecutors that observers are “domestic terrorists” and agents have been threatening and even arresting such observers. They also then use software that provides the name and addresses of observers, letting them know the government knows their identity and address. Such violations of privacy data are only supposed to occur in the context of a criminal investigation. There have been multiple reports that ICE officials will drive past observers homes to intimidate them.
