Fujimoto's next project is shoujo with focus on Asa/Yuko

I think Fujimoto has earned enough recognition as a storyteller that he was allowed to end a highly popular shounen manga this way
However I will still be sitting back and observing in wait of any announcements be it about his break or another project from him...

my own explanation is that fujimoto hates shounen fans and has a high concept thing in works he's going to do next <- coping
but also with how on the nose the whole chapter felt i can't help but think there must be something else
