See also: VVVVVV. That game was always popular but releasing the source code after 10 years really helped with its longevity and made the game even better than it was. It really should have become more of a thing after Doom did it to great success.

The rediscovery and success of Moon Child has been helped so much by the owners' willingness to be as open with the IP as possible, making the game super accessible and now even releasing the source code. I really hope this helps other gamedevs see this as an option.

Reminds me of this laptop toy I had as a kid, had a "CD drive" that you would put discs into and they'd spin up and load different programs. Turns out it was just detecting the reflectivity of three points on the outer edge of the disc and loading programs based on that.

Plus, the game actually feels finished now! No more paths leading to nowhere in the final level, and a proper credits screen! This is how I will be playing Kao 3 from now on, there's 0 reason to go back to the unmodified version IMO.

Played though it and I'm impressed. It's basically an expanded version of Kao 3 with an extra level, more abilities, more characters, and everything feels right at home, you'd be hard pressed to figure out what's new and what's not if you haven't played the original.
