Learn here about the top priorities of the US ocean sciences community, presented in a report by a committee co-chaired by CEOAS Dean Tuba Özkan_Haller. Bonus: the piece was written by CEOAS alum Jenessa Duncombe, now a science writer for Physics Today!

A victory for the federal scientific workforce! We could not stand by while this irreparable harm continues at NSF, NOAA and all our scientific agencies.
TODAY the judge granted our request to temporarily HALT the mass firings at federal agencies under Trump’s Executive Order.
🧪 Though a doubling of NSF's budget might seem far-fetched, that's exactly what Congress said what's needed to maintain national competitiveness in science & tech.
From the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act of 2022:
Welcome to Save The U.S. National Science Foundation A Girl Looking at a Physics Model TAKE ACTION Save NSF is a coalition of concerned scientists and allies who are working to save funding for scientific grants through the U.S. National Science Foundation. Our mission is to support and advocate for the continuation of vital research and innovation in various scientific fields. NSF funding is critical to this work. Join us in our endeavor to ensure a sustainable future for scientific exploration and discovery.
I am so heartened to this seriously AWESOME #SaveNSF website go up today!!!!

Pause for a minute to appreciate the valiant Program Officers still at NSF, who are doing their utmost to preserve what they can. They’re in the stinking rotting belly of the beast, laboring on our behalf.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ to them
🔔BREAKING🔔
The NSF has frozen all research grant awards—cutting off life-saving science midstream and demanding ideological screenings for future funding.
This is censorship disguised as oversight.
Here’s how you can help us spread the word ➡️🧵(1/3):

YASSSS.
And the part about *local* stories all across the nation is really important in moving the needle.
Setting this date as one goal for myself.
“Having grants be terminated really not only means the end of the science but it also means it’s the end of our careers.”

🧪 NSF GRFP update!
New graduate NSF fellowships will likely be announced this week for the GRFP (see bottom of 🧵 for why).
First off, I'm *very* glad to hear of those going forward, given the otherwise bleak year so far for graduate training.

A map showing the topography of Antarctica, without ice
We’ve just published the most detailed map yet of the landscape beneath Antarctica’s ice sheet (called Bedmap3), and we learnt some pretty cool facts about Antarctica that you can use to impress your pals. Ready?

This follows an announcement by the head of the Environmental Protection Agency that it will repeal dozens of pollution limits and the legal basis for regulating greenhouse gases.
Can climate models reproduce observed trends?
The answer can be challenging. Our new review paper in Science Advances led by Isla Simpson and Tiffany Shaw @drshaw.bsky.social discusses challenges and ways forward in confronting climate models and observations.

HEY DORKS! I did some math. WE can be the difference.
Erica Chenoweth’s work suggests that when 3.5% of a public are mobilized in one non-violent action, the movement is almost always successful.
How does this apply right now?
